Sorry, I'm the Final Boss Now novel Chapter 4

Marguerite had slapped him, and he’d immediately corrected himself, saying the black one looked nice.

It was that date with Joshua that led to her driving out, to her death.-

That’s why he had hated Joshua all these years.

The mention of Joshua’s name made Marguerite’s expression darken.

Back then, she had been the Campus Queen of Pinecrest High, with plenty of admirers. Joshua had been pursuing her since their freshman year. At first, she wasn’t particularly fond of the laid-back rich kid. But he’d pursued her for three years, and a few incidents along the way changed her opinion of him, making her willing to go out for meals and chat with him.

After their final exams, he gathered a large group of classmates and staged a grand public confession of his love.

She had agreed to be his girlfriend.

The day of the car crash was supposed to be their first official date.

Truthfully, she hadn’t been madly in love with him. It was more that high school was over, and she figured there was no harm in trying out a relationship. The last two years of high school had been a relentless battle for her, a constant state of high alert to keep her top academic rank from being snatched away.

From her dream, she learned that Joshua had entered the entertainment industry and was surrounded by scandals until he met the heroine and finally decided to settle down. They starred in a TV series together, and their on-screen chemistry was a massive hit. They began dating in real life, too.

But the heroine overheard one of Joshua’s friends mention a girl he had loved deeply in high school who had died.

She asked him, “Between me and her, who do you love more?”

He hesitated for two seconds. That was all it took. The heroine got angry and broke up with him.

Joshua was a rich kid to begin with, and now he was an A-list actor with millions of fans. He thought she was being unreasonable and didn’t try to win her back at first. To spite him, the heroine deliberately got closer to Theobald, who was infatuated with her, and even starred in the movie he funded.

When Joshua found out, he went crazy and started desperately trying to get her back. The heroine, however, was still playing hard to get.

Ultimately, she and Theobald were just pawns in the hero and heroine’s romantic drama.

“Let’s not talk about the past. Let’s go get some lunch. I’m starving,” Marguerite said.

Theobald frowned, noticing the dark look on her face.

Was she upset because she now knew what kind of person Joshua really was? He was a huge star now; anyone could tell you about his endless string of girlfriends and scandals.

Marguerite must be heartbroken. In her mind, Joshua was still her boyfriend.

Feeling a surge of irritation, Theobald dropped the subject. He stood up. “What do you want to eat?”

Marguerite didn’t hesitate. “Hot pot.”

Mr. Wood had already been sent away by Anna; it was best if too many people didn't know about the CEO’s private affairs.

“You two go ahead. I’ll wait here,” Anna said.

Marguerite grabbed her hand. “Come with us! It’s more fun with three people.”

Anna was taken aback for a moment and glanced at Theobald.

He had no objections. Anna was his most trusted assistant; there was no need to be guarded around her.

“Together,” Theobald confirmed.

The mall was still bustling with people, which put Marguerite’s mind at ease.

You can mess with anything, but you don't mess with money.

They walked into a restaurant and had just sat down when Theobald’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen.

It was a reply from Hannah.

[Theo, I’m here. But it’s so crowded. Haven’t they cleared the mall yet?]
