An hour later, Emma finished packing, cradled Silas—still planted in his flowerpot—while Corvin carried Coalball, and the three of them left the Interstellar Hunter Alliance with Edric.
Riding in the small hover vehicle, Emma stared in surprise at the forest inside the repair zone. Overnight, every blasted patch had already been fixed. "Edric, did the guys pull an all-nighter last night?" she asked.
They got everything together so quickly! she gasped.
Edric watched the restored landscape and explained, "A group who were on leave heard about the alliance's trouble and came back overnight. They did this."
Every blade of grass and tree here had been their pride and effort; seeing it destroyed had hurt them. So when they heard the alliance had been hit, they returned immediately and repaired it through the night.
Still, manpower alone wouldn't have been enough to finish this quickly—another person had helped.
After hesitating a moment, Edric told Emma, "Damian supplied the repair materials."
"He sold them to you?" Emma blurted. "He didn't cheat you, did he?"
She hadn't forgotten the time Damian had swindled Edric out of star coins.
"No." Edric shook his head. Not only hadn't Damian charged him, he'd wanted to give the supplies away. Emma, of course, didn't want any entanglement with Damian, so Edric had insisted on paying.
Outside, Jimmy and Thero were already waiting. When Emma emerged, Thero rubbed his hands together and greeted her in a nervous, cheerful voice. "Ms. Emma Tibarn, greetings. I'm Thero Smith, second elder of the Drakonids.
"On behalf of our leader, Mr. Smith, I send you my regards. He has been exceptionally busy recently and hasn't had the chance to attend to you—please don't be upset."
Ms. Tibarn is so adorable. Oh, how lucky of Mr. Smith! Thero thought, visibly pleased.
An elderly guest had come to help and was being polite about it; Emma smiled and returned the courtesy. "It's all right. Having you here to help is more than enough. Thank you for coming."
"We're family—of course we should," Thero said, quickly waving this off.
Thank the Beast God for matching such an understanding female to Mr. Smith. With his gruff temper, without divine help, he'd be single for life, Thero mused to himself.
