Emma thought back to the last time she'd been in danger—when she'd seen that mysterious Phoenix.
She turned to Lucien. "That Phoenix from before… That was you, wasn't it?"
Lucien nodded. "It was me."
Hearing him confirm it, Emma smiled, her whole body relaxing.
"You saved everyone that day. I heard you were injured and went missing on the outer battlefield. Are you okay now?"
Lucien couldn't help the faint smile tugging at his lips. Warm firelight flickered in his eyes.
"Don't worry about me, Emma. I've mostly recovered."
Emma felt her heart ease at that. "Then, why haven't you shown up all this time?" she asked curiously.
Why hadn't he come to see her? Had he not received any messages on lightcore, or was it just inconvenient?
Thinking of his current appearance, Lucien pressed his lips together, hesitating. Then, he said softly, "Emma, it wasn't convenient for me to show myself lately. But I've always been nearby. Every time you're in danger, I'll be there to protect you."
So, she had guessed it right. He'd truly been by her side all along.
Since he said he couldn't appear for now, Emma didn't press further. Instead, she asked, "Then, if I want to see you again, how do I call you out?"
They couldn't just stay invisible to each other forever. How were they supposed to build any kind of relationship like that?
Truthfully, Emma was dying to know what Lucien looked like. His voice was beautiful—deep and calm—and he was tall.
Curious, she brushed her hand lightly against his waist. Not an ounce of fat.
Lucien froze at her touch. His heart fluttered with both excitement and nervousness. She didn't seem to mind being close to him. That was enough.
"Emma," he said quietly, "I won't stay hidden for much longer. You can accept Aria's invitation and come to Aurelia. We'll meet there, alright?"
He waited anxiously for her answer.
Lucien had to return to Aurelia to recover as soon as possible. As a follower, his status was already lower than that of Edric and the others. If he didn't reappear in front of Emma soon, it would only get harder to compete with them.
Edric always looked sincere, but that man's little schemes ran deep.
Corvin acted easygoing, yet his ways of winning favor weren't few either.
And Silas—he was the real headache.
As for Drake and Damian, Lucien didn't consider them a threat. Not yet.
Emma couldn't see Lucien's face clearly, but she could feel how tense he was. She didn't answer right away.
Instead, she asked, "If I go to Aurelia and meet you there, will you come back to the Interstellar Hunter Alliance with me?"
