Spoiled By My Nine Beast Husbands (Emma Tibarn) novel Chapter 140

**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 140 Discussion**

“If things escalate to a real threat, the Empire’s council will be informed,” Lucien declared, his voice steady but laced with an undercurrent of concern.

“We don’t need to rush into action just yet,” Silas replied, his demeanor casual, but the tension in the air was palpable.

He raised his eyes to meet Silas’s gaze, searching for answers in the depths of his friend’s expression.

“What about you, Silas? You’ve been back for quite a while now. I assume you’re not planning on reporting for duty?” Lucien’s tone was pointed, a hint of challenge lurking beneath his words.

It was a familiar pattern—once someone snagged a huntress, their priorities shifted dramatically.

Silas crossed his arms, a smirk dancing on his lips, sharp as a dagger. “You’ve got some nerve saying that to me, Lucien.”

He gestured towards Lucien and Edric, his finger jabbing the air as if to emphasize his point. “This is what you call looking after a huntress? You two have lost your damn minds! You’ve wrecked the house and let some brazen dragon waltz in here as if he owns the place.”

“If I hadn’t shown up when I did, who would have protected her? Who would have cleaned up the mess?”

Lucien’s jaw tightened, his lips forming a thin line of frustration.

Edric, unable to meet Silas’s piercing gaze, stared at the floor, his shoulders slumping under the weight of the accusation.

Silas exhaled sharply, the sound cutting through the tension like a knife. “Exactly.”

His focus shifted to Emma, his tone softening as if sensing her exhaustion. “Forget about them for a moment, Emma. You look utterly drained. Let me escort you back to your room so you can rest.”

He was right. She had been awake through the night, and they had spent the morning grappling with the fallout from Frostveil’s chaos.

Emma felt a wave of gratitude wash over her as she smiled, noticing the pride that illuminated Silas’s features. “I suppose I am a bit tired,” she admitted, a hint of weariness creeping into her voice. “I think I’ll take a short nap.”

Of course, Silas would seize this opportunity. Lucien had riled him up yesterday, and now Silas was relishing every moment of this chance to get back at him.

As Silas guided her out, Edric’s teeth clenched together in frustration.

His fingers brushed against one of his sharp fangs, irritation flickering in his eyes like a flame. That guy was getting far too cocky for his own good.

He turned to Lucien, his voice low but intense. “Silas may share your rank, but you’re still the first mate here. Are you really just going to let him talk down to you like that?”

Lucien was not known for his patience, especially not when someone below him was scolding him.

He rubbed his temple, a sigh escaping his lips. “Did you see the way Emma looked at him? What was I supposed to do? Start a brawl right in front of her?”

Besides, he had made a mess of things the night before. Silas had earned this small victory.

Edric fell silent, his frustration simmering as he stalked off after Emma, leaving Lucien behind.

Lucien remained, his fingers tapping a soft rhythm on the armrest of the waterwood couch, lost in a sea of contemplation.

Meanwhile, Emma and Silas stepped through the doorway—

And froze in horror. A corpse swung ominously in the center of the living room, swaying gently in the light like a pendulum of dread.

Emma gasped, the sound sharp enough to sting her throat, as her muscles locked in place, her eyes fixated on the horrifying spectacle before her.

Silas, noticing her sudden stillness, leaped in front of her with a protective urgency, his voice slicing through the air. “Marcus! Get your ass down from there right now! If you’re that intent on dying, do it outside!”
