**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 297: A Family**
Emma cast a playful glance at Silas, her voice a delightful mix of curiosity and mischief. “So, is Remy planning to stay sprouting on your head forever?”
Silas chuckled, a hint of pride in his tone as he explained, “Remy needs to grow there for three whole years before he can take on a human form.”
At that moment, Remy had already blossomed from the size of a tiny blueberry to a plump grape.
Three years of growth—just how large would he become?
Could he possibly be the size of a pumpkin?
The thought of Silas balancing a bright orange pumpkin on his head danced through Emma’s mind, and despite herself, she felt a smile tugging at her lips.
Nearby, Drake couldn’t help but beam with happiness.
Emma is taking me home. I can hardly contain my joy.
In stark contrast, Marcus was struggling to mask his contempt.
That shameless old dragon!
Before Silas could offer a retort, Corvin approached, laden with plates of food, and caught Emma’s playful banter mid-sentence.
His eyes widened in disbelief as he exclaimed, “Wait a minute! If that’s the case, Remy is going to stay on Silas’ head for three years? How enormous will he get by then? Basketball-sized?”
The mental image of Silas strutting around with a basketball perched atop his head sent Lucien and Edric into a fit of suppressed laughter, their lips pressed tightly together to stifle the sound.
Marcus glanced at Silas and the small fruit sprouting from his head, muttering weakly, “There’s no way he’ll reach basketball size. Remy’s just a fruit—he’ll probably end up being as big as that watermelon Ms. Tibarn discovered last time.”
At that remark, Silas’ expression darkened, and the mere thought of a watermelon on his head made his mouth twitch uncontrollably.
“Enough of this nonsense, all of you,” he declared, stepping forward to grasp Emma’s hand firmly.
“Emma, don’t pay any attention to their ridiculousness. Remy will stay just like this until he leaves me. He won’t grow any larger.”
Remy, innocent and unaware of what a watermelon truly was, could sense the tension in the air. Judging by the reactions of his father and the others, it was clear that it wasn’t something positive.
“Mommy,” he said softly, his voice filled with concern, “I won’t turn into a watermelon. Please don’t dislike me. I promise I’ll store up energy, and when I have enough, I can change into human form.”
Emma tenderly brushed her fingers over Remy, who was bouncing with excitement atop Silas’ head. “I know, sweetheart. No matter what you transform into, you will always be my baby. I could never dislike you. My love for you is endless.”
With a delighted squeak, Remy bounced even higher, his joy radiating.
“I will always be Mommy’s baby! You’re the one I love the most!”
