**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 298: Pearls, Promises, and Possessive Hearts**
Getting along with the huntress’ mates proved to be a crucial strategy for Kieran. The more harmonious his relationships became with them, the faster he could ascend to the status of one of the huntress’ mates himself. He could almost taste the anticipation of that transformation.
With a mischievous grin, Marcus leaned closer to Kieran, his eyes twinkling with camaraderie. “Me too,” he replied, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
Atop Silas’ head, the tiny figure of Remy wriggled free from his leafy sanctuary, a burst of energy and excitement. “I want it too! I want it too! I want two of them!” he exclaimed, his voice high-pitched and eager.
Silas raised an eyebrow, bemused. “And what exactly do you need them for? In your current state, you can’t use anything,” he replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.
“I can’t use them,” the little creature chirped sweetly, his innocence shining through, “but I can give them to Daddy!”
Silas chuckled, a warm smile spreading across his face. “If they’re for me, one’s enough. Why two?” he asked, genuinely curious.
A thought crossed Silas’ mind—was the little one truly asking for an extra just for him?
Without missing a beat, Remy answered, “Because the other one is for Daddy Drake!” His words were innocent yet profound, reflecting a child’s desire to mend the sadness he sensed when Daddy Drake had been left behind. Perhaps a pearl could bring a smile back to his face.
He didn’t bother asking for any for Mommy; he knew all too well that the merman was one of her devoted followers, and she certainly had no shortage of pearls.
Silas felt a wave of warmth wash over him as he looked at Remy, his heart swelling with affection. What a filial little cub he was.
Kieran, observing the scene unfold, noticed that everyone had lowered their heads, engrossed in their breakfast, seemingly content in the silence. Recognizing that no one intended to break the quiet, he forced a stiff nod of agreement.
“Yes, yes! There’s plenty! As many as you want,” he assured, his enthusiasm bubbling over.
Pink pearls were the one treasure he never found himself lacking.
After breakfast, attendants from the Thalassian Palace arrived to clear the table, their movements efficient and practiced. Silas and Lucien, bound by duty, prepared to return to the palace that Drake had arranged for them.
With their departure looming the next day, Kieran felt a sense of urgency. He needed to return to the Merfolk to collect a few essential items, while Edric went off to arrange transport along the starrail.
Earlier, while cooking, Corvin had taken the beast cores and crystals from the Drakonid males, promising to teach them the art of preparing sea beasts. The males, filled with eagerness, were already waiting nearby, anticipation buzzing in the air.
As Emma spotted Corvin preparing to leave, she instinctively caught his arm, her grip firm yet tender.
“What’s wrong, Emma?” Corvin asked, blinking in confusion, his brow furrowing slightly.
“Do you not want me to go? Then I won’t,” he added, a hint of desperation threading through his words.
In that moment, he would have dropped everything—the beast cores, the crystals—because nothing mattered more than Emma’s presence.
“I’m not stopping you,” Emma replied, a playful smile lighting up her face. She leaned in and planted a soft kiss on his cheek, her affection palpable.
“I just haven’t kissed you in a while and suddenly wanted to,” she confessed, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
The joy surged through Corvin like a bolt of lightning, electrifying his senses. He froze momentarily, the warmth of her kiss igniting a grin that spread across his face. His fingers brushed the spot where she had kissed him, and his eyes lit up with excitement, akin to fireworks bursting in the night sky.
“Emma, kiss me again. No—twice. No… three times, please?” he implored, his voice filled with longing.
