Chapter 317 Settling Accounts

Lucien was dumbfounded.

The air in the living room froze solid.

A vein pulsed hard at Lucien’s temple.

I’m not capable?

Even through the black silk blindfold, his eyes felt sharp enough to cut. His gaze swept coldly over every man in the room.

Who said that? Step forward.

Corvin flinched back a full step, hands waving fast. Not me. I didn’t say anything!

Edric blurted, Not me either!

Silas Hamblin lifted both palms placatingly. Come on, no way it’s me. Lucien, we’ve survived a lot together. You know I’d never, right?

Marcus added, I never speak ill of anyone.

Listening to them defend themselves, Lucien’s cold laugh cracked through the room like frost breaking on glass.

Heh.

The temperature plunged. Even blindfolded, he saw straight through their guilty hearts.

Good. So, no one’s confessing, huh?

His lips curled into a bladeedged smile.

Fine. I’ll deal with my current task first. Then I’ll deal with each of you, one by one.

With that, he turned and strode upstairs, steps steady, back tall. Only the black ribbon tied behind his head drifted lightly with his movement

When he disappeared around the stairwell corner, the air in the living room finally began to move again.

Corvin’s knees gave out; he nearly fell. We’re done for.”

His face was pure despair. He’s going to kill me.

The last time Lucien settled accounts,Corvin lost an entire batch of the latest mechs and a full fleet of interstellar warships. The schematics and inventory lists still sat on his desk like cursed relics.

This timeI might have to hand over the whole lab.

Edric didn’t look much better. He slumped against the wall and sighed. Ugh.

Lucien wanted to expand his squad and had demanded a batch of elite, hightier therians. Those were nearly extinct, and ones matching Lucien’s insane standards were basically mythical. Where was he supposed to find any?

Perfect. That bill is only going up.

Marcus, who’d been sprawled motionless on the couch, finally sat up. Seeing Corvin and Edric looking halfdead, he frowned.

Lucien won’ttattle to Ms. Tibarn, will he?

Marcus rubbed his chin, eyes narrowing in thought.

How do we stop Lucien from ratting them out?

What if we bribe him with hightier beast cores?

But Ms. Tibarn had already banned me from dealing with the Drakonids.

Then what?

Maybe a trip to the Chitinid’s territory?

Daddies, what’s wrong with you all?

From the top of Silas’s head, Remy looked around with wide, curious eyes. His little voice was all innocent wonder.

And you dare ask?Silas massaged his temples, exasperated.

Your curiosity just landed me, Daddy Corvin, Daddy Edric, and Daddy Marcus in deep trouble.

Last time Remy eavesdropped, Lucien came to collect compensation. He’d demanded mountains of flowers and leaves. Silas had already delivered one batch and still owed more.

At this point, he was practically plucking himself bald.

Corvin walked over and patted the little fruit on Silas’s head. Remy, next time you’re curious about something, don’t ask it in front of everyone, okay? Wait until it’s just us. Ask me or your Daddy privately.

Please, no more digging graves for us all.

Okay! I will remember.Remy nodded earnestly.

Corvin exhaled in relief. Good kid.

Silas rolled his eyes internally. Corvin had told him that exact thing countless times. Every time, Remy promised to remember. Yet every time, he still blurted things without a second thought.
