**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 346: Saving Malrik**
“Malrik has completely lost his mind. He actually attempted to do that to me!” Silas exclaimed, his voice thick with disbelief and anger.
As he stepped closer, Silas’s gaze fell upon Malrik, who was ensnared in a prison of ice. The sight was harrowing. The thin, jagged cuts that marred Malrik’s skin were still oozing blood, the crimson liquid staining the crystalline ice around him, creating a grotesque contrast of red against the transparent blue. His eyes, once vibrant, now glowed a deep crimson, mirroring the blood that seeped from his wounds. He resembled a feral beast, utterly consumed by madness.
Suddenly, a sharp cracking sound echoed through the air, drawing everyone’s attention.
Marcus’s heart raced as he realized that Malrik was on the verge of breaking free from his icy confinement. Without hesitation, he summoned his powers once more, intensifying the frost that encased Malrik, desperate to keep him at bay.
Silas stepped back, his brow furrowed with concern. “From the looks of it, he must have been dosed with the Enchanter’s Aphrodisiac. Until the effects of the drug subside, he won’t regain his senses.”
“What are we supposed to do now?” Marcus asked, his voice laced with urgency. “Is there no antidote? He’s already in such a terrible state. His power has plummeted from Rank 11 to Rank 10. If this continues, my ability will only freeze him to death!”
Turning to Silas, Lucien pressed, “Will your flowers be able to help him?”
Silas shook his head, frustration evident in his expression. “My flowers can only tend to his external wounds. They won’t address the underlying issue.”
Drake, who had been observing silently, stepped forward with determination. He crushed the ice on Malrik’s face with a swift motion and then, with careful precision, tossed a deep blue bead into Malrik’s mouth.
“What did you just give him?” Silas asked, his eyes wide with alarm.
“A dragon pearl,” Drake replied, his tone steady but serious.
A dragon pearl? The revelation hung in the air, and everyone turned to Drake in shock, disbelief etched on their faces.
“That’s not your dragon pearl, is it?” Lucien questioned, his voice rising slightly with concern.
A dragon pearl was not just any ordinary object; it was the essence of a Drakonid therian. Each Drakonid possessed only one, a treasure said to possess the power to cure poisons and elevate dragons in strength. There was no way Drake would part with his own pearl for Malrik’s sake.
“Of course not,” Drake clarified, a hint of protectiveness in his tone. His own dragon pearl had already been secretly given to Emma, and there was no chance he would sacrifice it for Malrik. “I offered him one that belonged to one of our departed Drakonid elders.”
When a Drakonid therian passed away, they left behind a dragon pearl. If they had a mate, that mate would receive it; if not, it would remain within the clan for safekeeping.
“Will it actually work?” Edric asked, skepticism creeping into his voice.
Drake shrugged, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. “I can’t say for sure. It’s worth a shot, though. We don’t have better options at this point.”
The thought of Emma seeing Malrik in such a state gnawed at Drake’s mind. What if she felt pity for him?
As Malrik swallowed the dragon pearl, there was a flicker of hope; it seemed to provide some relief, but his overall condition remained dire.
