**Chapter 374: Safe at Last**

“Marcus.”

Lucien’s heart raced as he recognized the figure standing before him. It was indeed Marcus, but the sight of him only deepened the questions swirling in Lucien’s mind. His voice, laced with anxiety, came out in a rough whisper, “Why did you come? Where is Emma?”

Only moments earlier, an officer had approached him, urgency etched into his features as he delivered news of a high-level warship that had been located. Lucien’s pulse quickened at the thought of Emma. The image of the ship flashed in his mind—he had seen it in a photograph sent by the officer. It was unmistakably the vessel Corvin had crafted specifically for Emma.

The moment he laid eyes on that ship, hope surged within him. He had dashed towards the docks, convinced that Emma had finally arrived. But to his surprise, it was Marcus who stood before him, the bearer of news he desperately needed.

“Ms. Tibarn is fine. You need not worry,” Marcus reassured him, noticing the tension that gripped Lucien’s shoulders. He spoke quickly, eager to alleviate his friend’s distress. “She asked me to find you. She felt your beast mark heating up, and her instincts told her you might be in danger.”

As Marcus recounted the events that had transpired at the manor, Lucien listened intently, his heart gradually easing at the knowledge that Emma was safe and sound. The weight on his chest lifted, and he instructed Marcus to secure the warship first before leading him back to his own vessel.

Once aboard, Lucien turned to Marcus, a serious expression settling on his features. “I cannot use my lightcore at the moment. Please, send Emma a message for me. Tell her I’m unharmed, that the fight here has concluded, and that she shouldn’t worry. I should be able to return soon.”

The mission had gone smoothly, a fact that brought him some relief. He had kept his lightcore switched off throughout the ordeal, which was why Emma had been unable to reach him.

Marcus scrutinized Lucien, noting the disheveled appearance he bore. Despite the chaos of the battlefield, Lucien’s mental state appeared stable, which offered a glimmer of hope.

“Looks like you’re not injured,” Marcus remarked, a hint of relief in his voice as he activated his lightcore, initiating a video call with Emma.

Emma had been anxiously waiting at home, her mind racing with thoughts of Lucien’s safety. Each day, she reached out to Marcus, seeking updates on both his and Lucien’s well-being.

As soon as Marcus’s call came through, she answered almost instantly, her voice a mixture of anticipation and worry. “Marcus.”

Her image flickered into view within the ship’s lounge, and Marcus could see the anxiety etched across her features. “Ms. Tibarn, it’s me,” he said, quickly shifting the camera to reveal Lucien standing behind him.

“Lucien.”

The moment Emma’s gaze fell upon him, her relief was palpable. “You’re safe. That’s such a relief.” Tears brimmed in her eyes as she took in his presence, the stress of the past days melting away.

The toll of sleepless nights was evident; dark circles shadowed her eyes, a testament to her restless thoughts. Each time she closed her eyes, she envisioned Lucien’s pale face, haunting her dreams. She saw him standing in the darkness, silent, as he turned away from her, disappearing into the shadows. No matter how loudly she called out or how desperately she searched, he remained out of reach, lost to her.
