Spoiled By My Nine Beast Husbands (Emma Tibarn) novel Chapter 379

**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 379: The Hidden Grudge**

“Have you all forgotten the reason you’re able to sit there comfortably, pointing fingers at my people? Who do you think stood bravely on the outer battlefield, risking his life to fend off those vile monsters for your sake?” Calum’s voice rose, slicing through the silence like a dagger, but the room remained deafeningly still.

No one dared to respond.

In an instant, Calum’s tone shifted, turning as frigid as ancient ice, the kind that had been encased for millennia. “When you push too far, something will inevitably be taken away.”

He straightened his posture, exuding authority. His piercing gaze swept across the pale faces before him, lingering on each one as if assessing their very souls. He spoke deliberately, ensuring every word was crystal clear. “Clean up your own mess. If I discover that you’ve attempted to meddle with the military again, I won’t hesitate to intervene and remove those claws of yours. Do you understand?”

Their bodies trembled at his words. Nods came in rapid succession, almost involuntarily, their foreheads glistening with cold sweat as fear gripped them.

Calum let out a derisive snort, the disdain in his eyes unmistakable, a reflection of his contempt for their cowardice.

Meanwhile, Lucien and Marcus scoured the warship with their team for what felt like an eternity, yet they came up empty-handed, still unable to locate the elusive Rank 11 Chitinid.

“It appears that one has truly escaped this warship,” Lucien remarked, his brow furrowing as he surveyed the massive vessel. He turned to his crew, issuing a command with a tone that brooked no argument. “Bring this warship back.”

His intention was clear: he wanted to retrieve it and hand it over to Corvin. The Chitinid had managed to construct such a formidable ship before Corvin had even had a chance. The technology they had harnessed was a mystery to him, but he knew that Corvin would be able to decipher its secrets. Once Corvin had a chance to study it, he would undoubtedly create something far superior.

Since Calum’s arrival, Marcus had been uncharacteristically quiet.

Once they returned to their own ship, Lucien seized the opportunity to probe further, having just finished issuing his orders. “Marcus, is there something you hold against Calum?”

Marcus shook his head vehemently. “No.”

“I just dislike him. That’s all there is to it.”

Lucien raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched across his features. “You haven’t said a word since you laid eyes on Calum’s projection. That doesn’t seem like simple dislike to me.”

This wasn’t the typical reaction Marcus would display towards someone he merely disliked. When Calum had approached, Marcus had slumped back onto the couch in the break room, his demeanor suggesting he wanted nothing more than to disappear into the cushions.

“You don’t have to share if you’re not comfortable.” Lucien smiled, trying to ease the tension. “When we get back, I’ll ask Emma to have a word with you.”

“Stop.”

Marcus’ eyes shot open, and he glared at Lucien, irritation flaring within him.

This incessant bird is truly bothersome.

He shot Lucien a pointed look. “I’ll tell you, but you must promise not to mention it to her.”
