**Chapter 380: The Cost of Rescue**
As the words echoed in his mind, Lucien felt a jolt of urgency. The report from his subordinates flickered to the forefront of his thoughts, detailing the dire state of two injured females who required a super-level recovery pod for their treatment. The weight of their plight pressed heavily on him.
He turned to his adjutant, his voice steady but laced with concern. “How are they faring? What’s the status of their treatment?”
The adjutant responded promptly, a hint of relief in his tone. “The medic has confirmed that they are no longer in immediate danger. However, they remain unconscious and will need to stay in the pods for the time being.”
Lucien’s brow furrowed deeper as he pressed on, “And what about the other female? Have we confirmed her identity?”
“The second female has been identified,” the adjutant replied. “Her name is Lily Yates, a member of the Enchanter Clan. Like the first, she is also out of danger, but she has yet to regain consciousness and continues to require medical attention.”
Lily Yates? The name struck a chord within Lucien.
Malrik’s little sister?
A sense of responsibility washed over him. “Understood.”
He issued a firm directive to his adjutant, “Ensure that someone monitors both of them closely. If they awaken and still require treatment, they are to remain in the recovery pods. No exceptions. If they are stable enough to leave, escort them to the warship at the rear where the other rescued females are being housed.”
“Yes, sir,” the adjutant acknowledged, taking note of the orders before swiftly departing to implement them.
Just as the door clicked shut behind him, Lucien’s communicator chimed, breaking the silence of the room. A moment later, Calum’s holographic image flickered to life in the lounge, his expression one of casual curiosity.
“Did you manage to locate that female, Dahlia, whom the higher-ups were so concerned about?” he inquired, his tone casual, almost indifferent.
Lucien nodded, his face a mask of professionalism. “Yes, she has been found and is currently receiving treatment in one of the recovery pods. The medic assures me she is no longer in any danger.”
Calum’s lack of concern for Dahlia’s well-being was palpable. “As long as she’s been found, that’s what matters. I’ve heard she’s a human female?”
Lucien confirmed, “That seems to be the case.”
A chuckle escaped Calum’s lips, filled with a hint of mischief. “I also caught wind that she is the mate of Kael Auris, the young chief of the Suncrest Lineage. You should inform him. Perhaps he would like to retrieve her sooner rather than later. If he doesn’t make a move, we’ll have to follow the orders from the Central Planet officials and send Dahlia back there.”
The implications of a human female being caught in the web of high-ranking officials were not lost on Lucien. Kael would undoubtedly face significant challenges in securing her release.
