Damon’s expression hardened. Three dots. Three remaining flame fragments pulsing faintly within the almost fully drained Diadem of the Eternal Sun, each one a small fortune of power he had no intention of letting walk away.
Goldy buzzed around doing its best. To give the fire sprite its time, Damon did not have to do much. He just needed to exchange a couple of attacks at most with the black robed man. However, he had no intentions of doing this casually.
The only reason the red-robed guy hadn’t killed Damon immediately was because he had his own agenda. Something told Damon that this one definitely did not have any agenda like that. He would probably fight to kill the very first time.
And if he was as powerful as the red-robed man, then could he withstand even a single attack from the man?
Damon decided that his best chance lay in trash-talking. "What? Come to pick up your princess?" He drawled, flashing a crooked grin as his aura flared crimson. "You Devereux lapdogs sure know how to clean up a mess. What’s next? You gonna tuck him into bed and sing him a lullaby?"
The black‑robed man’s head turned slightly.
"Oh, I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong?" Damon mocked, gesturing toward the unconscious Reynard. "I didn’t realize your master’s babysitter was on duty today. How many of you does it take to carry one burnt chicken off the battlefield?"
Damon barely closed his mouth when something shifted. Everything happened way too quickly, much quicker than he could react.
The man raised his free hand. Darkness condensed into a black blade, black fire running down its length. All Damon could see was that black blade, and the next moment, the blade was already in front of him, aimed to strike him right at his chest.
There was nothing he could do. It was too fast. Before Damon could even think, the attack was already upon him. It was some sort of illusion trick. This was going to hurt like a bitch.
Damon braced himself for the damage as the attack passed through his armor, his items, his blood-barrier, and reached for him. It was just about to carve out a massive gash on his body and spill blood, when suddenly a loud clanging sound rang out.
Damon looked down to see that the attack was actually blocked before it could touch him!
And it was blocked by none other than the little black egg, which was stuck to his chest!
The little leech had come in clutch and helped him block a huge attack. Damon instantly shifted gears and prepared himself before another attack came. He might have been caught off guard the first time around, but it was not going to happen again.
