Several of them disintegrated on the spot, bursting apart like ink bubbles under a torch. But most did not. They simply twitched... then burrowed deeper.

If anything, the lake’s domain pressed harder, suppressing his divinity and lightning with the ease of a giant snuffing out a candle. The water around him thickened, heavy and suffocating, smothering his elemental outburst under its weight.
