Storms of the Heart novel Chapter 26

Julian looked into Trina's eyes and saw that unyielding, utterly detached resolve.

The tension that had held him together finally snapped with a sharp, definitive crack. A surge of panic and despair washed over him.

He suddenly seized Trina's wrist, ignoring her struggles and furious protests, and dragged her up to the rooftop of the townhouse.

The fading sunlight set the sky ablaze in a mournful crimson. Julian dragged Trina to the edge of the rooftop, where the flimsy railing offered no protection from the sheer drop of several stories.

He held her arm tightly, his eyes bloodshot and blazing with intensity.

His voice trembled violently with the extremes of pain and madness, torn between a threat and pure, overwhelming despair.

"Trin! If you really dare to leave… If you actually walk away from me…" he shouted.

He jabbed a finger toward the drop below, his eyes wild. "I'll jump from right here! If I die… If it can ease your anger… If it can make you feel better… I'll do it now! Do you believe me?"

Trina was trapped at the edge of the railing, half of her body nearly hanging over open air, and the strong wind whipped her long hair into a wild mess.

She looked at Julian, who looked completely unhinged like a madman, his eyes blazing with reckless frenzy and a pain that seemed etched into his very bones.

Her chest tightened, and a shiver ran through her.

For a moment, she gasped, struggling to catch her breath, but then an even deeper hatred and icy resolve spread through her.

She stopped struggling and lifted her gaze, fixing Julian with a calm look so chilling that it cut deeper than any scream or curse.

Her red lips parted, and she enunciated each word deliberately. "Julian, what else do you know besides using threats and force? You think this will make me soften?

"Go ahead—jump. If you die, I'll set off fireworks and celebrate finally being completely free of you."

After that frenzied rooftop standoff, the townhouse fell into a suffocating silence.

Trina's silence and icy indifference formed an impenetrable barrier, completely shutting Julian out of her world.

He still returned home every day, exhausted from training or reeking of alcohol, trying every way to chip at that frozen wall. Even if all he earned was a glare or a harsh word, it was better than the suffocating stillness that greeted him now.
