We said goodbye to Liam and Noah two days ago. We said goodbye to Tyler yesterday and today it’s time for Ezra and I to leave the Train. Part of me is glad that I’ll be coming back in a week. There’s a lot that I need to get done at home in the upcoming week, but this time, I know I’ll be ready to take on the Academy. The next time I walk off this Train, it will be as the Alpha of my pack.
Our Dealing with Crisis class had become intense over the past. month. All of us had things we had to prepare for when we returned home, mine was facing my parents, but specifically, my mother.
I’m not surprised when the warrior who picks me up looks. uncomfortable around me. I failed the Academy. They would have gotten the news by now. Everyone thinks that means that my mother is right about me and that I’m not going to take my place as Alpha of my pack. That means they would be stuck with my mother and father for two more years until my brother could go to the Academy and pass.
They’re mistaken and they’re all going to realize it very quickly.
No one is waiting outside for me when I arrive home, not that I‘ m surprised. However, when I walk in, she’s standing there with a sneer on her face, my father standing beside her looking defeated. Has he always looked like this? I guess I’d become so used to it that I didn’t notice anymore. My brother is also there,

and I’m not quite sure what I see on his face. Pity? Victory? Maybe a bit of both.
“Well, I’m surprised you were willing to show your face here after failing the Academy. Not that I’m surprised you failed, you understand. You are your father’s son after all. You’ll never amount to anything more than a womanizing, beer–guzzling, loser. It’s a good thing we have your brother here to take over as Alpha,” she says.
I stare at her for a long moment, truly wondering where all of this hatred has come from. I did a lot of soul searching at the end of my time at the Academy and I can’t ever remember a time when my mother acted like she loved me. When I go back next week, I intend to work on my issues of not wanting to find my mate. I need to get past the feelings that my mother hast created inside me so that I can value and appreciate the gift the Moon Goddess gives me when she chooses to bestow my mate upon me.
“You have three months mother,” I say quietly.
“Three months for what?” she scoffs.
“Three months to find a new place to live,” I say and the entire packhouse goes deathly quiet. My father’s head snaps up, but still, he says nothing.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m returning to the Academy in one week and when I do, there‘ s no question that I’ll pass. I will return to this pack as it’s Alpha and when that happens, you will no longer be welcome here. Unlike my father, I do not intend to let you spew your anger and hatred over me and this pack,” I say, and she gasps and stares
