The Billion-Dollar Divorce (Ian and Chloe) novel Chapter 116

Chapter 116

The next morning, Chloe was woken up by her alarm right on time.

She stretched and got out of bed, then turned and saw lan sitting there looking totally dead, like the walking dead with his eyes wide open.

Chloe walked over and took a closer look. She noticed Ian had dark circles under his eyes.

She asked with concern, “Is Edward putting too much pressure on you lately? Are you having trouble sleeping?”

Ian shot Chloe a look that could kill.

Chloe tossed the covers aside, hopped out of bed, and wandered into the bathroom to freshen up.

Ian followed her in, looking seriously pissed off.

‘I spent the whole night tossing and turning, totally sleepless, and she didn’t even say a word about it,‘ Ian thought to himself.

At 7:50, Chloe was rushing around, packing up her things and getting ready to leave.

Ian blocked her way, face still dark. “It’s still early. Why don’t you have breakfast first? I’ll drive you.”

Chloe kept stuffing her phone charger into her bag, not even looking up. “Just eat on your own. Joanna’s bringing me crab roe soup dumplings this morning, and I’ll eat with my coworkers.”

At that, Ian grabbed his coat and insisted, “I’ll drive you.”

Chloe dangled her car keys. “I’ll drive myself to work from now on. No need for you to go out of your way.”

Chloe opened the front door, but suddenly paused.

She turned back, walked up to Ian, and stood on her tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the lips.

Ian pulled her into his arms without thinking.

Sensing Ian’s reaction, Chloe smoothly pried herself free and slipped out the door.

Ian just stood there in the entryway, frozen–overwhelmed and unable to move.

He couldn’t help but recall what his mother, Miranda Hamilton, had said to him.

Now, he and Chloe felt less and less like a married couple–this place hardly felt like home anymore.

Cora heard the door close and came over. “Mr. Hamilton, breakfast is ready.”

Ian let out a low grunt and headed straight back to his bedroom.

Chapter 116

:

After the morning meeting, lan was back in the CEO Office at Hamilton Group.

He stared at his phone for over a minute before finally picking it up and sending Chloe a WhatsApp message

Almost immediately, Chloe called him.

Jan’s tense expression slowly cased.

Chloe’s voice came through, full of concern. “Are you sure it’s just that same old issue? Do you maybe need to get checked out before taking any meds?”

Ian glanced at Mitchell and said into the phone, “Same problem as always. Just get me some medicine.”

Chloe’s reply was crisp and cheerful: “No problem! I’ll put something together after work and bring it home tonight. Gotta run.”

Ian was just about to say something else, but Chloe had already hung up on him.

Mitchell watched as Mr. Hamilton’s face grew stormy by the second.

He quickly called Chloe again.

When she picked up, Mitchell said carefully, “Mrs. Hamilton, Mr. Hamilton’s really not doing well. I don’t think he can wait until tonight.”

Ian: ..

After finishing the call, and under Ian’s death stare, Mitchell said through gritted teeth, “Mr. Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton asked you to bear with it a little longer. She said she’ll bring the medicine before noon.”

Hearing that Chloe would bring the medicine over, Ian’s furrowed brow finally relaxed a bit.

It was just past eleven in the morning.

Mitchell handed Ian a cup of coffee when one of his assistants knocked on the door. “Mr. Garrison, there’s a lady here without an appointment. She says she’s here to drop something off for Mr. Hamilton.”

Mitchell quickly said, “You’re really going to stop Mrs. Hamilton? Hurry up and let her in.”

The assistant, looking panicked, rushed off to invite her in.

Mitchell sneaked a nervous glance at Ian, barely daring to breathe. He hugged the wall and slipped quietly out of the office.

Andrea put the insulated container down on the coffee table. “Ian, Chloe said you’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, so I threw some lily bulbs into the porridge. Here, try some.”

Ian didn’t budge from behind his desk, his expression ice cold. “Just leave the medicine. Take the porridge with you.

There was nothing left between him and Chloe that even remotely resembled the relationship of a couple married for three years.

Chloe was just about to walk to the cafeteria with her colleagues when Ian’s text popped up. Without missing a beat, she texted him back on the spot.

But after a few steps, Chloe suddenly froze, as something came to mind.

She quickly sent lan’s office address over to Andrea.

After work, lan went straight to the restaurant they’d agreed on.

He set the promotion gift for Chloe on the chair next to him, then sent her another message.

Ever since Andrea came back to the country with her kid, things between him and Chloe had just kept getting

worse.

Now, Chloe didn’t make a fuss anymore–she’d accepted that Andrea and her son were part of their lives.

But honestly, all Ian wanted was for her to accept their existence. That was it.

From across the restaurant, Ian spotted Chloe pushing open the door and stood up.

But the moment he saw Andrea trailing right behind her, his face froze up.

The two women walked over to Ian, chatting and laughing together.

Ian just stood there, his scowl deepening with every step they took.

Before Chloe could say a word, Ian cut her off, his voice icy. “Why are you two together?”

Chloe motioned for Andrea to sit down first.

Then, turning to lan, she said, “I happened to bump into Andrea on the way here, and since she helped me out by bringing your medicine at noon, I thought I’d invite her to join us as a thank you.”

Ian stared at Chloe, his gaze dark and intense. “Just the two of us–wasn’t this supposed to be our date?”

Chloe gave lan a casual, comforting pat on the back. “It’s really no big deal–just get used to it.”
