The Billion-Dollar Divorce (Ian and Chloe) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Chloe was hiding in the bathroom, feeling lost and dazed, her mind in a complete fog.

Her heart was racing, but she didn’t dare make a sound.

She slumped down next to the toilet, feeling as helpless as a child.

Ian had planned everything, getting her pregnant just so he could use the baby to keep her trapped.

Even if she had the baby, it would only be turned into a bargaining chip for him.

She couldn’t give this child a real, loving home.

Even if she did give birth, the little one was destined never to be loved.

Even so, the baby was completely innocent in all this.

But she couldn’t let this baby be born.

And she knew, more than anything, that no one could ever find out she was carrying Ian’s child.

She had to figure out a way to end this pregnancy before anyone else suspected a thing.

When she heard the knock outside, Chloe quickly composed herself and went to open the bathroom door.

Eric noticed Chloe looked off and asked with genuine concern, “Has work been too much for you lately? Want to take a few days off?”

Chloe managed a weak smile. “Thanks, Eric. I think I just didn’t sleep well last night. Really, I’m fine.”

Eric set a file down on Chloe’s desk.

He said, “There’s an expert symposium in Harbor City at the end of the month. Our hospital only has three spots, and I’m hoping you’ll attend and pick up something new. Does that sound good to you?”

Chloe’s excitement flickered in her eyes the moment she heard about the event in Harbor City.

I’m in, Eric, she replied.

She was only about four weeks along, so she could easily wait until the end of the month.

With the symposium as her legitimate reason, she could head to Harbor City and slip out from under lan’s watchful eyes.

After the event, she’d just say she needed to stay in Harbor City for a couple more days, and then she could take care of it without anyone ever finding out.

After Eric left, Chloe anxiously paced her office, unable to calm down.

If lan was scheming against her, there was no way he’d miss a single detail–he’d be watching her closer than

ever.

She’d gotten so sick last night, and Ian’s reaction had been way too strange–not normal at all. He definitely suspected something.

She had to think of a way to cover her tracks and make lan drop his suspicions for good.

Chloe picked up her office phone, and soon her assistant Joanna knocked and walked in.

Chloe quietly whispered something in Joanna’s ear, and Joanna just nodded before heading out.

Over an hour later, Joanna came back.

She handed Chloe the bloodwork report and a pack of meds.

Chloe’s name was printed right there on the medical form.

The results showed her white blood cell count and neutrophil levels were way above the normal range.

After stopping by Rowe Estate in the afternoon, Chloe headed home early.

But Ian was already back before she even got there.

He walked over to Chloe, bent down, and set a pair of slippers right at her feet.

Chloe changed into them without a word, keeping her expression neutral.

Ian said, “Since you’re always working at the hospital, flats will be so much easier on your feet. Tomorrow, let me take you to the mall. We can pick out a few comfy pairs together.”

Chloe caught the underlying hint in Ian’s words right away.

She didn’t respond and just walked straight over to the kitchen bar.

Noticing lan close behind her, Chloe set her bag down without saying a word.

Ian poured her a cup of warm water.

Jan studied her closely and said, “You look pale. You should probably get a full check–up. I’ll come with you

tomorrow.”

Chloe kept her eyes down, masking the turmoil within.

She shook her head, brushing him off gently. “I’m fine.”

While saying this, Chloe reached into her purse and pulled out a bag of meds.

She methodically laid out two pills of each kind on the counter, making sure lan could see everything.

Ian’s eyes darted between Chloe and the cold medicine laid out before her, suspicion flickering across his

Seeing Chloe still holding her ground, lan’s expression grew increasingly stormy,

He locked his hands around her shoulders, a storm of emotions flickering in his eyes as he looked at her.

“Chloe, I know I’ve done things you can’t accept, but we’re still married. Are you planning to keep shutting me out like this?” Ian said, his voice heavy with frustration and pleading.

Chloe snorted coldly. “Ian, if I hooked up with another guy and got pregnant with his kid, would you seriously just act like nothing happened and keep calling us husband and wife?”

Chloe’s voice grew sharp, agitation rising. “You went behind my back, keeping another woman and a kid out there, yet you refuse to let me leave. You tell me not to get upset, not even to show my feelings, and I’ve done everything you asked. What more do you want from me?”

Seeing Chloe’s emotions spiral out of control, Ian clenched his jaw and forced himself to compromise.

He moved in, drawing Chloe into his embrace, his palms warm and gentle on her back, trying to soothe her.

lan said, “Chloe, I’ve already apologized, and I’ve deleted all of Andrea’s contacts. Can’t we just put this all behind us and give our marriage a real chance?”

Chloe snapped back, sarcasm dripping from her voice, “So I have to forgive you just because you said sorry?”

The two locked eyes, the air between them so tense you could almost hear it crackle.

After a while, Ian tried to reason with her, sounding both stubborn and desperate. “Even if you won’t let this go now, we’re still married. Couples just don’t sleep in separate rooms, you know.”

Ian pressed on, his voice low–but firm. “I swear, I won’t lay a finger on you until you forgive me. But if you think we’re going to sleep apart–forget it. That’s not happening.”

Seeing that Ian was dead serious, Chloe decided not to push it any further.

“No point going head–to–head with Ian when he gets this stubborn. I’d just end up losing anyway, she thought.

With a frosty look, Chloe climbed into bed.

Ian went to take a shower.

More than ten minutes later, the mattress dipped behind her.

Feeling lan draw near, Chloe quietly closed her eyes, waiting.

‘He must’ve noticed what I staged in the bathroom, Chloe thought, heart pounding. ‘No way lan missed my little setup!

If I’m guessing right, he’s probably already suspicious, she reasoned to herself.

‘Knowing lan, he’ll want to check in person whether it’s actually that time of the month for me, Chloe braced herself, nerves on edge.
