The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 344

"Of course." Xander replied.

"And you can understand that Julian and I are truly in love?" she pressed.

"Of course. I understand completely," Xander said.

"Goodbye, Xander."

"Goodbye." Xander waved to Felicity and walked away.

He got into his car and drove off. After driving for a while, he suddenly turned the car around and headed for the hospital where Mr. Frank was being treated.

Outside the ICU, Xander spoke with the doctor. "How is Mr. Frank doing?"

"His condition is still uncertain, and we'll need to keep him under observation. But it's not entirely pessimistic," the doctor replied.

"What do you mean?" Xander asked.

"Mr. Frank has a strong will to live. Even though he's in a coma, he often mutters two things: 'My beloved wife, Irene,' and 'Shepherd.' It seems he has some unfinished business that's keeping him tethered to this world."

Xander fell into thought. He smiled at Frank's attending physician. "Thank you for everything. Please do whatever it takes to save his life."

"We will, of course."

After leaving the hospital, Xander drove aimlessly, lost in his thoughts. The car kept moving until, without realizing it, he found himself parked outside Winona's apartment complex.

He didn't get out. He didn't call her.

He had seen her leave with Yves Prescott earlier and witnessed how protective Yves was of her. As long as Winona was happy, that was all that mattered.

Xander was silent.

"Winona went to pick up Zane this afternoon. She should be back any minute. I figure around this time she… oh, there she is!" Mia said, pointing behind Xander's car.

About seventy or eighty yards away, Winona and Yves Prescott were walking around the corner, holding Zane's hands. The three of them were laughing and talking, looking for all the world like a sweet, loving family.

As they got closer, Winona spotted Xander leaning out of his car window.

Xander had no choice but to get out, offering her a slight smile.

"Dr. McCarthy, are you here for that home-cooked meal I promised? You're more than welcome!" Winona said, looking at him with an easy grace.

"Nona," Xander began, "did you know… Mr. Frank before all this?"
