If that happened, none of Julian's remaining assets could be allowed to fall into outside hands. They had to be secured for *her* children.
The most urgent matter at hand was to go through with the most spectacular wedding the city had ever seen. Luckily, the few times she'd tried to tell Julian and the Nicholsons her secret, she'd been interrupted. Then, her future mother-in-law had insisted she save her announcement for the wedding, calling it a sign of "four blessings arriving at once."
Looking back, her mother-in-law's intervention had been a godsend. Whether it was a quadruple blessing for her or not, announcing it at the wedding was the most secure way to handle it. With so many guests present, Julian wouldn't be able to back out of a publicly announced commitment.
Seeing Felicity's furrowed brow, Julian assumed she was just exhausted. She had traveled to Italy while pregnant to find a solution for the elder care project. She had truly worked hard.
Lately, Julian had been feeling increasingly resentful toward Felicity for her part in the drama between the three of them. But in that moment, seeing her sacrifice, all his resentment melted away. He leaned in and kissed her forehead. "You've worked so hard, Felly."
Felicity nestled into his embrace. "Julian, after all these years of Winona keeping us apart, we're finally together, but we've had to endure so much criticism. It hasn't been easy. But for you, and for our twins, no amount of hardship is too much."
Julian's voice softened. "I'm going to give you a wedding gift that will exceed your wildest dreams."
"And I have a gift for you that will exceed yours," Felicity replied playfully.
"By the way," Julian said, shifting to the pressing issue, "did you find a solution in Italy?" As much as he was about to marry the woman he loved and become a father to twins, the problems with the elder care project were urgent. He had to ask.
Before she could finish, Tiana came racing toward Felicity like a shot. "Mommy, Mommy, you're finally home!" she cried joyfully. "I missed you so much!"
"Felly is so good to Tiana," Janetta remarked with satisfaction, watching the little girl run. "Otherwise, Tiana wouldn't be so attached to her."
Perhaps she was running too fast to stop, because Tiana's small head collided squarely with Felicity's stomach.
"Ah! Julian, catch me!" Felicity cried out as she lost her balance and stumbled backward.
