Felicity's sharp cry drew the attention of every guest in the hall. They all turned to see Felicity, dressed in a pre-ceremony gown, looking shocked and bewildered at Tiana, who stood at her feet, smiling up at her. In Tiana's hand was a brow razor, and Felicity's skirt was slashed in several places.
"My god, what a wicked child!"
"Her father is marrying a stepmother, and she's trying to stop it!"
"But I heard the stepmother dotes on her like her own daughter, always taking her out to play, teaching her to rock climb. She's been so good to her!"
"Vicious little brat!"
"Thank goodness she only slashed the dress. What if she'd gone for her stomach?"
"She's afraid of being replaced. A malicious child like that will slash her stepmother's belly sooner or later."
"How terrifying."
"Some children are born demons."
The guests hurled their judgments at the five-year-old girl. Tiana looked around at the crowd, her sweet, forced smile slowly fading as their words washed over her.
"I didn't do it! I love my new mommy! We're best friends! I love my grandpa and grandma and uncle, I love them all! I always, always do what my grandma tells me to do…"
"Tiana, where did you get that brow razor?!" Janetta, who had been chatting with her friends, rushed over at the commotion. "How could you ruin your mother's dress? Were you trying to stab the babies in her stomach? Did you slash her dress because you couldn't reach her belly?" Seeing Felicity's shocked expression and the razor in Tiana's hand, she immediately understood. This little monster. She had no idea she could be so evil.
At the same time, Julian, who had been in a back room getting ready, heard the noise and came out. He looked down at Tiana, his face a cold, hard mask. "Tiana, what are you doing?"
Tiana looked up at her father, her eyes wide and innocent. "Daddy, I love Mommy, and I love Grandpa and Grandma. I didn't do anything wrong. I was just doing what Grandma told me to do. She told me to cut Mommy's dress."
"That stepmother is still protecting her, even now. What a kind soul."
"Don't protect her! If you keep this up, who knows when she'll try to harm the babies in your belly!"
That single comment struck a chord of fear in Felicity, and she instantly let go of Tiana.
What power did a five-year-old have against an entire room of adults? All she could do was submit, especially to her own father.
Julian's face was grim as he stared down at Tiana. "Tiana, you have been very naughty. Daddy is too busy to look after you today, but this wedding must go on. It's only fair to your mother. Therefore, you cannot attend. I'm going to have to send you away."
Hearing that she couldn't be at her own father's wedding, tears began to stream down Tiana's face.
"Daddy…" she whimpered, her voice filled with a heartbreaking plea.
