The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 427

"Wait, my dear daughter-in-law!" Janetta cut in just as Felicity was about to speak.

Felicity froze. She wanted to sew Janetta's mouth shut. Who could possibly understand the courage it took, the mental preparation she had done, to get these words out? They were on the tip of her tongue, and Janetta had stopped her.

"Mom?" Felicity forced a smile. "Didn't you consult that brilliant spiritual master? The one who told you that having four blessings at our wedding would bring the best possible fortune to the Nicholson family? Why are you asking me to wait?"

Janetta beamed, unable to contain her glee. "Just give me two minutes, dear. I won't delay your happy announcement. I just have a little surprise for you."

Felicity had no idea what she was planning, but before she could react, Janetta had taken the microphone and was pointing directly at Winona.

"I had assumed all our guests were invited," Janetta announced to the entire hall. "But it seems we have a wedding crasher. My former daughter-in-law—no, I can't even call her that, she never had a wedding with my son. She was merely the woman who crawled into his bed. And this bed-warmer has decided to attend my son and new daughter-in-law's wedding."

Winona felt a chill run down her spine. It was true, the Nicholsons hadn't invited her, and it was inappropriate for her to be here. But Yves had insisted. She had hoped to sit in a quiet corner and go unnoticed, but Janetta's eyes were as sharp as a hawk's. And Janetta clearly had no intention of being subtle. She was determined to make Winona die of social humiliation at this wedding.

Winona wished the ground would swallow her whole. She shot a look at Yves. "I told you I didn't want to come, and you dragged me here. You're going to have to carry my corpse home."

For someone usually so serious, Winona's deadpan humor was startlingly effective. Yves actually laughed. "This is their wedding, the happiest day of their lives. The Nicholson family is expecting a 'quadruple blessing.' Don't you think dying here would be a bit of a downer for them? You're so malicious."

Winona was speechless. She was being cornered by Yves at her table and skinned alive by Janetta on stage.

Janetta's voice was relentless. "Winona, why did you come to my son and daughter-in-law's wedding today? I demand an explanation!"

"She's looking down on her and trying to sling mud. Serves her right."

"Let's see how Mrs. Nicholson responds."

"Quiet down…"

Janetta was so furious she could have bitten off her own tongue. Felicity shot her a sideways glance and hissed, "Mom, what are you doing? Are you trying to make a mess of things?"

Janetta ignored her daughter-in-law and kept her eyes fixed on Winona. "I thought you might not understand that I was deliberately provoking you. Of course I respect the law! Of course I know you and my son were legally married! So since we've made that clear, and you know you are divorced from my son, and we did not invite you, why are you here?"
