Winona had no answer. The audience was silent.
That was a fair point. They didn't invite you, you're the ex-wife, so why did you come? To cause trouble? This was Winona's fault. The tide of public opinion began to turn against her.
Some guests, however, were thrilled. "A Nicholson wedding is rare enough, but now we have the ex-wife crashing the party? This is better than a blockbuster movie. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show."
"Pass the popcorn!"
"I still want to hear what the new bride's big announcement is."
"Whatever it is, it's the Nicholson's business, what does it have to do with us? I'd rather watch the ex-wife and the new wife go at it. I heard the divorce two months ago was a city-wide spectacle and the ex-wife won big. Too bad the video was never released, I'd have loved to see it."
"Let the drama begin!"
The guests had lost all interest in Felicity's announcement. All they wanted was to see a showdown between the ex-wife and the current one.
"Answer me, former daughter-in-law," Janetta pressed. "Why did you come to our family's wedding? If you can't give me a reason, then I will show you no mercy."
A reason? Winona had no reason to give. The only one she could think of was: *I wanted to see my daughter.* But they would just counter with: *You could have seen her any time, why today?* And she couldn't betray Yves.
After a long pause, Winona simply gave up. "There is no reason."
"Honest, at least," Janetta said, a triumphant smirk spreading across her face. She turned to Felicity. "My dear daughter-in-law, she caused you so much grief, calling you a mistress, shaming you for being pregnant before marriage, even extorting you. But the Nicholson family never acknowledged her. In our hearts, it was always you. You were never the other woman."
"But our family is different! Today, the Nicholson family has four blessings arriving at once! And with this little bonus from you, I suppose we can call it five blessings! Thank you for completing our good fortune, former daughter-in-law," Janetta said, her smile dripping with condescension.
Winona said nothing.
Janetta turned back to Felicity. "Felly, you may now announce your wonderful news."
Felicity nodded, took the microphone, and looked at Julian with an expression of pure bliss. "Julian, I also have two eight-year-old children, a boy and a girl, a set of twins. Just like the son and daughter in my belly, they form a perfect pair, fulfilling the master's prophecy to your mother: a blessing on top of a blessing."
"You… WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?!" Julian and Janetta shouted in unison.
