If he uttered a single word rejecting Felicity's children, the crowd would crucify him. *You're divorced with a child yourself. If Felicity can accept your child, why can't you accept hers?*
Even though Julian wanted to slap Felicity into next week, she was carrying his twins. He had no choice but to swallow his rage. The presence of Yves Prescott and Winona only made it worse. He knew how much they would be enjoying his humiliation, laughing at the mess he was in. The thought of them gloating was enough to make him rein in his fury.
He wrapped an arm around Felicity, his voice thick with forced magnanimity. "My love, this is wonderful news. You know how much I love children. Now we have five. Just as Mr. Frank said, five children will make our home so lively!"
Felicity rested her head on his shoulder, her voice sweet and gentle. "Darling, I knew it! I knew you loved me enough to love my children too. I was right."
"Of course," Julian managed to choke out, the words tasting like ash in his mouth.
Seeing her son and new daughter-in-law so perfectly happy, Henrietta stepped forward. "Julian, Felly, why don't you have the children come up and meet everyone? Or better yet, when they introduce themselves, they can use Julian's last name. What do you think?"
Felicity nodded enthusiastically. "Of course, Mom! I don't care if the children take my name or not. I think it would be more respectful to Julian if they took his."
The entire Nicholson family, from Julian to Janetta, stood in stunned silence. Forrest and Janetta looked as if they had just been force-fed a plate of garbage. A wave of nausea washed over Janetta, and she had to fight to keep from vomiting, her face turning a sickly, ashen color.
"What are you going to announce?" Winona asked, confused.
But instead of answering, Yves pulled her to the center of the stage, dropped to one knee, and, as if by magic, produced a small, exquisite box from his pocket. He opened it, revealing a stunning ring.
"Winona," he said, his eyes locked on hers with a look of intense seriousness. "Marry me. I promise, in front of all these witnesses, that I will spend the rest of my life cherishing you, protecting you from any harm, and treating you like the goddess you are."
Winona was speechless.
