Chapter 479: Good For Him

The days on the island remained peaceful from the moment Lola arrived. Sure, there was chaos now and then—but the kind of chaos that made things more memorable. Even so, knowing this long vacation would be over in a few days made her feel slightly sad.

"I will miss this place," she hummed as she leaned against the balcony railing, snapping her eyes toward the vast surroundings.

From her vantage point, she could see the ocean, the hills, and the small lights from the neighboring island. Although the mansion was built on a private island, the surrounding islands were more or less secret tourist spots. So, there were a few tourists scattered on the main island.

A light chuckle escaped her as she caught faint movements from afar. The group’s lively voices echoed across the island, blending with the calm waves of the ocean.

"This place... is indeed a paradise," she said aloud, just in time for Atlas to walk in.

His steps paused for a second as he lifted his eyes toward her before joining her on the balcony. He stood beside her, hand resting on the railing.

The wind blew quietly at them, whispering its lullaby despite the sun slipping toward the horizon.

"It wasn’t like this before," he finally murmured. "The first time we came here... this place was different."

Lola playfully shot him a side-eye, laughing. "Of course it’ll be different. Change is the only constant thing in the world, hubby."

"..." He remained quiet, his eyes sweeping across everything in sight. "It’s a safer place now."

That made her brows twitch. "Why?" she quipped. "Was it very dangerous back then?"

"The main island used to shelter a small organization’s hive that operated illegal gambling schemes, abduction, and the like."

Her face twisted in disbelief. "What?"

"They abducted Slater," he said, snapping his eyes at her, his expression unchanged despite the memory. "And when it happened, Penny almost lost her life. They used to extort the townsfolk for protection—though they were the only ones causing trouble for everyone."

"..." She blinked. "Are you serious?"

"Mhm. You can ask everyone," he said. "It was a night to remember for all of us."

For a moment, Lola struggled to believe him simply because of how he delivered it. But knowing her husband, that was as serious as he could get. So it had to be the truth.

"But it’s safe now, isn’t it?"

He rocked his head. "Yes. Mint and Hugo dealt with them."

"Oh..." her mouth formed an O-shape. "I didn’t know Mint was actually reliable."

Of course, Lola knew Mint. That woman had stayed with them until now. And Lola was also aware that this odd woman named Mint used to be the head of Homeland Security. It was hard to believe, especially since Lola knew her personally.

But it seemed no one could really judge anyone based on appearance.

Lola looked away, her lashes fluttering as she gazed ahead. "I didn’t know such things happened in this place," she hummed. "During our time here, everyone’s just smiling and so easy to get along with. Who would have thought they used to live under such terror?"

Atlas didn’t answer.
