What Atlas said might have been something Lola quickly pushed aside when Second came, but it didn’t truly leave her mind. Once she appeased Second’s cravings and played with Chacha, dropping them off at the kids’ play area where Penny’s children were, she made her way out to the back patio.
When she arrived, Penny and Finn were idling there.
"Hey, sis!" Penny’s lively voice echoed, earning a short smile from Lola. "Huh? What—what happened to you?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Lola blinked, brows furrowed. "What do you mean? What happened to me?"
"Haha. She meant, why is your smile so short?" Finn chuckled, relaxed in his seat. "She can be very demanding."
"Ahh..." Lola shrugged. "Nothing, it’s just that... I don’t know if I misheard something."
She paused, snapping her eyes toward the two of them. "What are you two doing here, by the way?"
She thought everyone was here because only the castle’s butlers had been with the children. Atlas stayed behind to discuss something with the butler.
"Nina had a quick meeting," Finn explained. "She’s staying in our room for a while, but she’ll join us later."
Penny smacked her lips as she added, "My husband also had an emergency call. He’ll join us once it’s fixed."
"Oh..." Lola rocked her head. "What about the rest?"
"Slater and Haji went to the main town to buy extra souvenirs since we’re not going there in the next few days," Penny listed, counting with her fingers. Finn then added, "And Second Brother, Kiara, and Mint went for a stroll. They’ll probably bump into Slater and Haji in town."
"Ahh..." Lola nodded again. "And Ray?"
This time, Penny and Finn didn’t answer. They just stared at her.
"I don’t know," Penny finally said.
Finn nodded. "I almost forgot he was with us."
"Haha... goodness, you guys."
"Wherever he is, he’s probably stalking Mint," Penny shrugged indifferently. "Not important."
She then arched a brow at Lola. "So, sis, what did you mishear? And if it’s about my conversation with Finn just now, you definitely misheard it. I’m not plotting anything to eat Third Brother’s snacks. Not at all."
"..." Lola stared at Penny, weighing whether to indulge in Penny’s evil plot—which would surely make Slater scream his lungs out—or pretend she didn’t hear it. After a second, she chose the latter and sighed.
"Well, I just think Atlas told me something weird," she hummed, rubbing her chin. "I saw the secret cabin beside the castle, and he told me that’s where Zoren put him when he was in a coma and left paralyzed."
She then lifted her eyes back to Penny. "I want to believe I misheard him, but it was clearer than Slater’s dream of ascending to immortality." She paused, leaning forward with her arms resting on her legs. "Penny, tell me the truth. Has Atlas been in a coma before while dealing with the Secret Society affair?"
But instead of a direct answer, Penny and Finn exchanged a look. Their expressions were unreadable, clearly weighing whether they should answer. Then Penny leaned back and chugged her juice.
Finn smiled subtly. "He’s not talking about his time in the Secret Society, sister." He paused, took a sip, and licked his lips. "He’s talking about his first life."
Lola froze, her eyes widening. "What?"
"It’s alright," Penny huffed heavily. "Sis, you don’t have to hide that you’re living your second life. You mentioned it once—and yes, we know it’s true."
