**Chapter 658 An Unexpected Pregnancy**
If only Grant could provide them with the reassurance they so desperately needed—that she was truly okay. Only then would their minds finally find peace, free from the heavy burden of worry that had settled upon them like a dark cloud.
“She’s fine, just a little run down. I’ll write a prescription for supplements. Taking them for half a month will be beneficial for both the mother and the babies,” Grant stated with a calm authority, his voice steady as he scribbled on a notepad.
As his words sank in, a palpable relief washed over Grace and the others, lifting a tremendous weight from their hearts. The two little lives nestled within Lily’s belly were still hanging on! How could fate be so generous? After all, Lily had been thrown from that treacherous cliff, and yet, against all odds, they had survived!
But then there was Marilyn, who was practically seething with rage. The tension in the room was palpable, and her resentment simmered just below the surface.
Once Grant finished writing the prescription, Grace caught sight of Adeline returning from the bathroom. A warm smile spread across her face as she beckoned her over. “Adeline, come here! Let Grant check your pulse, too.”
Adeline felt a wave of nausea wash over her. Zoey had kindly offered her a pastry, but it had met an unfortunate end shortly after she had taken a bite. She attributed it to her recent stomach troubles and had no desire to trouble Grant with her issues.
Before she could voice her reluctance, however, Lily had already pulled her down onto the sofa, urging her to let Grant examine her.
“Is this Victor’s wife?” Grant inquired, his gaze drifting toward Adeline, who was clearly flustered under the intensity of Victor’s attention. It was a natural assumption, given their close proximity and the circumstances.
Before Grace could intervene, Grant flashed a smile. “Congratulations! She’s over a month pregnant.”
Adeline’s expression froze, her heart racing. Pregnant? The day she and Victor had been intimate was supposed to be her safe period. How could this be happening?
Her menstrual cycle had always been irregular, so she hadn’t thought much about it being late. For the past few weeks, her focus had been solely on finding Lily, and her own body had taken a backseat in her mind. Nausea had plagued her, but she had chalked it up to stress and poor eating habits.
The thought of carrying Victor’s child was overwhelming.
Yet, the cruel twist of fate was that Marilyn was also pregnant with Victor’s child. And Marilyn was the one he truly loved. Even with this unexpected pregnancy, the prospect of a future with Victor felt impossibly distant. Adeline would never use a child as leverage to bind him to her.
But the idea of terminating the pregnancy was equally unbearable. No, she would raise this child alone, determined to provide them with the best life she could muster, even if it meant doing it without Victor by her side.
Grace cleared her throat, a hint of embarrassment creeping into her demeanor. The baby growing within Adeline was not her grandson’s. No, the child in that creature Marilyn’s belly was the one that truly belonged to Victor.
She desperately wished that Grant was right, that Adeline could have been her granddaughter-in-law. Alas, such a remarkable young woman seemed destined for another family altogether.
