The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 104

Could Steven have actually told the doctors to inject her with some slow-acting poison?

But she didn't have time to think. Everything went dark.

Splash.

“Lucie! Lucie…”

When she finally came to, a burning pain shot through her chest. Someone was desperately doing CPR, pressing on her chest and giving her frantic breaths.

She coughed hard, water spilling from her lips.

“She’s awake! Mrs. Heath is awake!”

“Thank God, she’s finally come back!”

“Hurry, get the car!”

The sound of the staff’s panicked voices blurred around her.

She felt weightless as someone scooped her up and ran outside. Her head lolled back, and she tried to focus, but she couldn’t make out who was carrying her. It felt like Steven.

But why would it be him?

If she had died like this, wouldn’t he be relieved? Shouldn’t he be happy to see her gone?

So why was he trying to save her?

Twenty minutes later, Lucie was rushed to New Amberton Hospital.

The doctors were already waiting. They quickly lifted her onto a gurney, and a nurse strapped an oxygen mask over her face.

Steven looked frantic, his jaw tight as he grabbed the lead doctor. “I don’t care what it takes. Save my wife. Nothing else is acceptable. Do you understand?”

“Don’t you think, madam,” she said to Miranda, “that Lucie might have done this on purpose? Maybe she was afraid you’d hold her accountable for what happened.”

Miranda nodded, her expression cold. “I’m sure of it. She’s just trying to play the victim.

“She hurt Cody’s eye and was worried you and Steven would confront her. So she stages this pathetic scene. What a schemer.”

Marian’s lips curled in a sneer. “Exactly. Thank god Cody’s eyes are okay.

“She’s never around, never takes care of her own kid, and now she has the nerve to talk about divorcing Steven. Who does she think she is?”

The more Marian talked, the angrier she got—she couldn’t wait for Steven and Lucie to divorce.

The role of Mrs. Heath should have belonged to her daughter.

Her daughter and Steven were perfect together.

That was why Marian’s whole family had been living at the Heath estate—to make sure her daughter would marry into the family. Everything had been going according to plan, her daughter was practically already in the door, and then Lucie just appeared out of nowhere and ruined everything.
