The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 221

For a long moment, Steven just stared at June, who looked totally lovestruck. Honestly, she seemed a little out of it, so he ignored her and kept walking down the hallway.

After about ten more steps, he finally spotted room 908.

He paused, took a steadying breath, and knocked politely on the door.

Inside, someone called out, sounding pretty casual, “Come in!” They probably thinking it was just a nurse.

Steven exhaled, pushed open the door, and stepped inside—only to come face-to-face with Elio.

Their eyes locked, and for a second, both of them just stood there in shock.

The silence was thick and heavy, stretching on and on.

Steven’s jaw clenched, jealousy flaring hot in his chest. “…Elio, what are you doing here?”

Elio smirked, all ice and attitude. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? What are you doing here?”

Steven’s face darkened. He could feel the anger and jealousy boiling over. Had Lucie been spending all this time with Elio?

“Where’s Lucie?” he demanded.

Elio scoffed. “Why are you looking for her? Haven’t you already done enough damage?”

“That’s none of your business,” Steven shot back, voice sharp.

Elio straightened up, blocking his way. “Actually, it is my business. Lucie’s my girlfriend now. Anyone who tries to hurt her, answers to me.”

Steven felt like he’d just been doused in acid. He gritted his teeth, voice low and barely controlled. “Did she actually agree to that?”

“Obviously. So why don’t you do us all a favor and leave before things get messy.”

“I don’t believe you. Lucie, come out here!” Steven called.

From the other room, Lucie could hear the shouting. Her heart pounded as she hurried out into the living area.

The tension in the room was suffocating. Steven and Elio were squared off, both looking ready to explode.

“Steven, what are you doing here?” Lucie’s voice was cold, as if she couldn’t care less. “Why did you come?”

Steven looked at her, his eyes full of disbelief. “Why do you think?”

Lucie’s expression didn’t thaw at all. “You’re not welcome here. Please leave. Now.”

The words hit Steven like a slap. All the blood rushed to his head.

He’d just told her he was coming to see her grandfather. She said it was fine. That’s why he came. And now she was acting like he was a total stranger?

Was she messing with him on purpose?

“…What did you say? Say that again.”

Lucie didn’t even blink. “Leave. You’re not welcome. I don’t want to see you.”

Steven’s brow tightened, his eyes dark and stormy as he stared at her.

A doctor and several nurses rushed in, shocked. “Someone call security!”

“I’m on it!”

One nurse tried to run for help, but Steven and Elio, still locked in their struggle, rolled right into her way.

Elio knew from experience that Steven didn’t hold back—he fought dirty. Desperate, Elio grabbed a metal therapy bar and swung it at Steven’s head.

Steven, still holding the choke, twisted violently, dragging them both aside like some kind of death roll.

The steel bar hit the floor with a loud clang.

The force finally separated them.

“Are you seriously pulling dirty tricks now?”

“Elio, screw you!”

The nurse, trapped in the chaos, screamed.

June burst into the room, wide-eyed. “What on earth—why are you two fighting?”

Lucie’s heart raced as she watched both men, bloodied and furious, refuse to back down. “Please, stop! Please, just stop!”

But they were about to go at it again when a squad of security guards burst in, followed by Steven’s own bodyguards.

The security captain waved a stun baton, stepping between them. “Break it up! No fighting in the hospital! Everyone, back off—right now!”
