A little while later, Shannon made her way straight to Room 908 and knocked hard.
Madison opened the door, suspicion already on her face. “Who is it?”
The door swung open, and when Madison saw Shannon, her expression turned downright cold. “Ms. Rivas, what are you doing here? Is there a reason for this visit?”
Shannon folded her arms, her face tight with anger, and marched right into the room. “I need to see Mr. Anderson.”
“Hold on, you can’t just come in here!” Madison tried to block her, but Shannon brushed past.
“I’m here for Steven, and I’m here to give Mr. Anderson a little advice. He should keep a better eye on his precious granddaughter. She needs to stop chasing after Steven everywhere he goes.”
Madison’s tone sharpened. “Ms. Rivas, what kind of nonsense are you talking about?
“Leave. Now. Or I’ll make sure you regret it. This isn’t the Heath family’s house, and I don’t have to put up with you here. And by the way, Lucie has already divorced Mr. Heath. If you keep showing up to stir up trouble, you’ll get more than you bargained for.”
Madison had raised Lucie since she was a little girl and had followed her to the Heath family after her wedding. For four years, she’d watched Shannon and her mother, Marian, gang up on Lucie, always hiding behind Mr. Heath’s favoritism. Madison had been forced to swallow her pride and endure it all. To make things worse, Shannon’s father, Jackson, was a sleaze who never missed a chance to harass the young maids. The whole family was rotten to the core.
Shannon’s face went pale with fury. “You think you can threaten me? Try it and see what happens.
“Lucie did something disgusting and now you want to cover it up? She lured Steven to a hotel, obviously trying to get him into bed. What a disgusting, shameless woman. Some legacy for the Anderson family, huh?”
“If you insult my miss one more time, I swear I’ll rip that filthy mouth right off your face,” Madison snapped, stepping forward and grabbing Shannon by the cheeks.
Shannon shrieked, her voice high and panicked. “You gonna lay a hand on me? Who do you think you are?”
Madison pulled her closer, voice low and cold. “You think we’re still at the Heath house, where everyone has to give in to you? Not here.”
Shannon howled in pain. “Let go of me! Help! Somebody help!”
Rose hurried over. “What’s all this noise? You’re going to wake Mr. Anderson!”
Madison was still fuming. “Ask her what she just said. Go ahead, ask her.”
Shannon glared, rubbing her face. “Lucie did seduce Steven! Am I not allowed to come here and get some answers?”
Mr. Anderson’s brow furrowed. “What are you talking about?”
Shannon tossed her hair and sneered. “Your perfect little granddaughter dragged Steven to a hotel. She’s still hanging all over him, won’t even let him come home.”
A wave of anger and embarrassment washed over Mr. Anderson. He started to tremble, his hands shaking. “That’s ridiculous. You’re making things up.”
“Steven and Lucie are divorced. She would never do something like that. Our family has standards.”
Shannon rolled her eyes. “Don’t believe me? Fine. Call her right now and ask if she’s with Steven in bed.”
Mr. Anderson staggered, clutching his chest. “Someone call Lucie. Find out where she is.”
“Right away, sir.” Rose dialed Lucie’s number. The call rang and rang, but there was no answer.
“I’m sorry, sir. Her phone’s off. Maybe she’s busy.”
Shannon gave a cold laugh. “Yeah, she’s busy all right. Busy sleeping with Steven. No wonder she can’t pick up.”
