The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 34

"I'm busy. Can't you stop making trouble for me?"

Lucie met Steven’s gaze head-on, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. The gesture revealed the harsh outline of his handprint on her cheek and a bruise blooming on her arm. "Mr. Heath, we live in a country of laws. When you hit someone, you pay the price."

She turned to the police officer, her voice steady and unwavering. "Officer, please arrange for my medical examination as soon as possible. My attorney will be here shortly."

Miranda’s face darkened with fury, her finger trembling as she jabbed it at Lucie. "You’re being completely impossible! Steven just lost his temper for a moment. Did you have to make it into such an ugly scene?"

"He already apologized! Why can’t you just let it go?"

Tears streaming down her face, Shannon clung to Steven’s sleeve. "Steven, it’s all my fault... I never wanted things to turn out like this..."

Steven offered her a gentle, reassuring look. "This isn’t your fault. Get some rest." Then he shot Lucie a frosty glare. "Fine. We’ll do it your way."

He’s tired of this drama.

"Please come with us," the officer said.

The police followed protocol, took their statements, and documented Lucie’s injuries.

Her wounds weren’t severe.

But that wasn’t the point. She needed the official medical report and police record. They would be critical for her divorce proceedings.

Miranda fumed, on the verge of bursting.

The Heath family had New Amberton’s top legal team; they handled hundreds of cases every year. Never had they been dragged into a police investigation over something so trivial.
