The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 55

Steven’s eyes flashed with anger as he turned to Lucie, his voice sharp and cold. “Lucie, this is too much. Marian’s not young anymore. How could you do something like this to her?”

Lucie acted like she didn’t even hear him. She just sat there on the hospital bed, calmly scrolling through videos on her phone, completely unfazed.

The truth was, she’d done it on purpose. Lucie had never been the type to go after anyone first, and she definitely didn’t pick on people weaker than her. But if someone tried to mess with her, she wasn’t about to just take it.

“I’m talking to you. Did you hear me? Was this intentional?” Steven pressed, his frustration rising.

Lucie kept ignoring him, her attention fixed on her phone as if he wasn’t even there.

Deep down, she hated the silent treatment. But if she had to use it, nobody could outdo her. She could shut someone out so thoroughly it was like they didn’t exist.

Steven’s temper was about to boil over. Veins stood out along his temples as he yanked the blanket away and grabbed her hospital gown, pulling her upright. “I’m asking you a question! Why did you do this?” He shook her, his voice tight with anger. “Say something! Don’t push me!”

Lucie still didn’t respond. She didn’t argue, didn’t explain, didn’t even bother looking at him.

Just then, Marian piped up from the other bed, tears streaming down her face. “Mr. Heath, she did it on purpose! She’s targeting me and my daughter, she’s so cruel, she wants to kill us—ah!” She howled as the nurse pulled out the last tack.

“Doctor, get Marian treated now,” Steven snapped.

“Yes, Mr. Heath.”

A few nurses hurried over, lifted Marian onto a stretcher, and rushed her out. Her moans echoed down the hall. “Oh, that nearly killed me! Will I ever walk again? Am I going to be disabled?”

“Don’t worry, it’s just a surface wound. You’re not going to be disabled.”

Once Marian was gone, Steven turned back to Lucie, even more frustrated. “I’ll ask you one last time. Why did you do it? You know Marian’s like a second mother to me. I get that you don’t like her, but why are you going this far?” He shook her again, his patience gone.
