The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 58

“Yes.”

There was a heavy silence before Steven spoke again. “Are you sure about this?”

“I’m sure.”

Steven let out a frustrated sigh, his voice tight with anger. “Lucie, I’ve done everything I can to keep our marriage together. If you’re really set on this, then there’s nothing left to say.”

Lucie’s tone was cold. “Alright. We’ll settle it in court.”

She ended the call without another word.

She turned to the butler. “If he tries to come in by force, call the police and report him for trespassing.”

The butler looked clearly terrified. No one in New Amberton wanted to get on Steven Heath’s bad side. Lucie might not be scared of him, but that didn’t mean anyone else would risk it.

Just then a maid rushed in, her face pale as a sheet. “Miss, it’s Mr. Heath—he’s already inside. He looks furious…”

Lucie glanced out the window and spotted Steven marching toward the house, his expression dark and angry. The security guards trailed behind, looking helpless and stressed, clearly not daring to stop him.

“Miss, maybe you should go down and talk to him,” one of the staff pleaded.

“No.” Lucie grabbed her car keys, slipped out the back door on the second floor, and disappeared. The estate was huge, with a modern security system and more than a few hidden exits.

Five minutes later, Steven barged into her bedroom, eyes blazing. “Where is she?”

The butler stammered, “Mr. Heath, I… I told you, Ms. Anderson isn’t here.”

“Lucie, this is an amazing opportunity. You really should go,” Grandpa insisted.

“But Grandpa, with the divorce and everything… I’m not sure this is a good time.”

He was gentle but firm. “Listen, Lucie, I think you should do it. Besides, Dr. Tate will be there. I heard he’s planning to take on two last students. If you go, you might have a shot.”

Lucie’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively hit the brakes and pulled over.

“Lucie, you’ve always loved archaeology. This could be a huge step forward for you.”

Her doubts melted away. “Alright, Grandpa. I’ll go.”
