The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 70

The bodyguards rushed in, breathless. “Mr. Heath.”

“What are you all standing around for? Go find my wife!”

“Oh—yes, sir!” The group of bodyguards turned pale and scattered in every direction, searching for Lucie.

Steven’s mind was spinning. He pulled out his phone and dialed her number again.

“The number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later...”

Early morning.

Anderson Estate, House No. 1.

Lucie dragged her tired body through the doors of the Anderson family’s old home.

“Grandpa, I’m heading out to report to Mr. Murphy today. I probably won’t be able to make it to your birthday this year.”

Mr. Anderson smiled gently at her. “Go on. Do your best with the exhibition. This is a big opportunity. Show them what you’ve got, and maybe Dr. Tate will take you on as his last apprentice.”

Lucie took a deep breath, pushing aside her worries. She grinned at her grandfather with renewed confidence. “Don’t worry, Grandpa. I won’t let you down. I’ll go pack now.”

“Go ahead.”

She didn’t say another word, just turned and headed upstairs to pack her suitcase.

The cultural relics exhibition would be held at the Elmridge Museum on September 8th. Lucie had been invited to attend as a special guide. There were still more than two weeks to go, but she needed to meet up with the staff from the heritage bureau and spend half a month preparing and rehearsing.

Once her suitcase was packed, Mr. Anderson insisted on driving her to the airport himself.

“When you land in Westbrook, promise you’ll call me,” he said.

“I will, Grandpa.

“I’ll be back next Wednesday—I need to take half a day off to go to the divorce hearing.”

“Let’s go home.”

“Of course.”

Mr. Anderson got into the car, heavy-hearted, and they drove back to the house.

Just as they pulled up to the gate, they saw Steven standing there with the bodyguards, waiting anxiously.

The moment he spotted Mr. Anderson, Steven rushed over, practically tripping over himself. “Grandpa, is Lucie back? Did she come home?”

Mr. Anderson shot him a glare, not even bothering to respond, and walked straight into the house.

Steven froze for a second before hurrying after him, full of panic. “Grandpa, please, I’m really worried about Lucie. Is she here?”

“No,” Mr. Anderson replied coldly, not looking back.

Steven’s heart dropped even further. He was completely lost.
