Chapter 10
He took a deep breath, then, after a long pause, drove toward the clubhouse,
Alexander was usually very busy, shuttling between London and various locations. He rarely had time for leisure. After bringing Evelyn back, his visits to this place became even rarer.
When everyone saw him, they immediately stood up to greet him, “Mr. Whitmore, what brings you here today?”
But Alexander went straight to Lily. “Where is Evelyn?”
Lily immediately knew what he wanted to ask the moment he walked in. But remembering what Evelyn had said about not wanting to be involved with Alexander anymore, she feigned ignorance and replied, “Who is Evelyn? Mr. Whitmore, I don’t understand.”
Alexander’s voice was icy. “On the afternoon of the 16th, you drove Evelyn to the airport. I don’t have much patience. I’ll ask you one last time–where is Evelyn?”
Alexander’s cold gaze sliced through Lily’s face like a knife, sending a chill through her body.
She had seen him a few times before, but each time he had been so cold and unapproachable that people would stay away. This was the first time she had been so close to his presence, and it made
it hard for her to breathe.
At the same time, she silently cursed Evelyn for being so naive, saying that Alexander was usually gentle. The lens through which she saw him was probably about a thousand miles thick.
Lily steadied her mind and gritted her teeth. “Yes, I drove Evelyn to the airport, but I really don’t
know where she went.”
“I only know she went back to the U.S.”
“Back to the U.S?” Alexander froze.
Lily took a deep breath. “Yes, Evelyn said she wanted to get married back home.”
“Married?” Alexander repeated the words slowly, almost laughing in disbelief.
She returned to the U.S. to marry another man?
He squinted his eyes, turned around, and left. Just as he reached the door, he suddenly heard Lily

say, “Mr. Whitmore, I’m going to say something I shouldn’t. If you don’t like Evelyn, then please let her go.
Alexander’s footsteps paused.
Lily said, “I know you’ve always looked down on her, but her family never cared for her. She really couldn’t take it anymore and came to you. All these years, she’s struggled to objectify herself, to treat herself as an object. But in the end, she’s a person with flesh and blood. If you bring her back just to humiliate her again, can I ask you to let her go?”
“Humiliate?” Alexander coldly replied, “You think I’m humiliating her?”
Lily pressed her lips together. “Isn’t it?”
“If you really treated her like a person, how could you let her photos be posted online for everyone to mock?”
Alexander’s voice was cold, “What do you mean?”
Lily took a deep breath and opened her phone album, showing him the screenshots. The headline read, “Shameless female international student sells her body to climb the social ladder.”
Such topics had appeared after the concert, and Alexander had quickly suppressed them.
But this was even before the concert.
Alexander flipped through the pictures, all of them showing Evelyn smiling and trying to please him. Sometimes she fawned over him, sometimes watching his mood, each photo showing her carefully trying to please him.
Suddenly, his fingers stopped. In one screenshot, there was a plush toy. The toy’s zipper was open, revealing a note inside it. The note had six words written on it.
“I love you, Alexander.”
Alexander’s heart seemed to tighten instantly. He remembered that this toy was the one he had said he would throw away that day.
And that apartment–aside from him and Evelyn–only one other person could enter: Vivienne.
Alexander clenched his phone tightly, staring at the photo in disbelief. After a long moment, his voice came out hoarsely.

“I didn’t know.”
Lily said, “That night, Evelyn paid to suppress it. She said she didn’t want to make things difficult for you. But what did you do?”
