“Three years ago, Alexander suddenly handed all the overseas business to his brother. He hasn’t
been to the UK. once in those three years, and has hardly left New York City. I’ve heard from friends that he’s been looking for someone. Evelyn, are you still in New York City?”
I gave a soft “Mm.”
Lily immediately replied, “No, you’ll be found if you stay in New York City. Why don’t you come to the UK.? I can support you now, I have money.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at her bluntness.
“Don’t worry. New York is so big, he probably won’t find me so easily. After a few years, he’ll forget. Also…”
I looked at the various awards in my hands. “Also, every day I’m here, I feel like I’m one step
closer to achieving my dreams. I won’t abandon my path just to escape him.”
After hanging up, I said goodbye to my colleagues and walked out of the Aerospace Institute gate.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw a car–Lucas’s car parked at the entrance. The window was partially rolled down, and that familiar, calm face looked back at me.
“Let me take you.”
I got into the car. “I thought you were going home today?”
Lucas furrowed his brows slightly.
It seemed he didn’t want to mention anything about what had happened at home.
I didn’t press him, and just as I was about to speak, Lucas suddenly said, “There’s someone at
home.”
I smiled. “A relative? Or one of your parents‘ friends? It wouldn’t be a blind date, would it…”
Lucas glanced at me. “Mm.”
I paused for a moment, then suddenly laughed. “That’s fine, at your age, marriage should be on your mind.”
I laughed and patted Lucas on the shoulder, but then my wrist was suddenly pulled by a firm grip.

The next moment, his faint pine scent surrounded me.
Lucas gazed at me, so close I could feel his breath.
“You think so?”
On the quiet path in the midday sun, we were so close that our body heat mingled together.
Even though I had seen this face for three years, and we’d been together for a year, seeing Lucas so close made my heart skip a beat.
I shook my head. “Not really.”
“Not good at all,” Lucas said, narrowing his eyes.
“But I’m not ready to go public yet.”
I lowered my voice. “Lucas, give me a few more years.”
I still needed time to forget the past.
I rented a place near Cadence Tower, with several research institutes around it.
After I was dropped off at the apartment, Lucas received a call and went back home. I grabbed my bag, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw an old phone in my bag.
It was my old phone from three years ago, the one the academician had returned to me. I had
never powered it on.
I stared at the phone for a while, took a deep breath, and powered it on. As soon as it powered up, the screen popped up with hundreds of unread messages and missed calls.
All of them were from one person–Alexander.
I froze, looking at the name that had suppressed my memories for three years. They came rushing
back in waves.
I clenched my fist and opened the most recent message, sent just one day ago.
A message with no subject, just a chilling “I will find you.”
My back stiffened.

I placed my finger on the screen, wanting to reply with “Don’t contact me again,” but I deleted it, word by word.
If I was going to forget the past, then there should be no more contact.
I took a deep breath and deleted all the messages. Just as I was about to put my phone away, I heard a familiar, cold voice beside me.
“Is this how heartless you’ve become?”
I froze, looking up suddenly, and there he was, standing in front of me.
Under the bright sunlight, his figure was surrounded by a strong halo, making his face hard to distinguish.
But I froze, standing still.
The person who had left the deepest mark on me, the one who had given me both the greatest salvation and the most painful suffering, was standing right in front of me.
I felt completely stiff as I watched him take a step forward, the sunlight illuminating his brow. In his eyes, I saw that familiar nobility and distance.
I watched as Alexander’s gaze grew colder.
