The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 254

“He can’t have gone far.” Clifford’s voice was soft, as if he were discussing something utterly mundane.

Santino’s smile faded. “And then there’s Jolene.”

“Santino, you’re a smart man. Can’t you handle something so simple? Or is it that you just don’t care about Renata?”

Faced with Clifford’s pressure, Santino’s smile only deepened—a mask to hide the storm of emotions brewing beneath. There was no better disguise than a smile.

“Of course I care.”

Hearing this, Clifford let out a soft laugh. He placed a long-fingered hand on Santino’s shoulder. “You have your work cut out for you, Santino.”

“You’re too kind, Clifford.” Santino stood up and walked out without a backward glance.

Clifford watched him go, his own smile vanishing from his face.

Renata finally let out a long sigh of relief and hurried to Clifford’s side. “Bro, will he… will he really help me?”

After two years together, she knew Santino’s reaction was anything but normal.

Clifford pulled his gaze back and fixed it on her. “Renata, when you choose a man, you need to open your eyes and see him clearly.”

Renata’s heart sank. “Wh-what do you mean?”

Clifford reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “Silly girl. Why ask when you already know the answer?”

Renata stared at him, her face growing paler by the second. She didn’t want to admit it, didn’t want to believe Santino had betrayed her. But Clifford’s words were a death sentence for her denial.

“Why…?” she whispered, feeling as if all her strength had been drained away. She staggered back and collapsed onto the sofa.

Clifford offered no explanation, simply turning and walking out.
