The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 284

Latisha spent the rest of the day at the office but couldn't find Clifford. Finally, she sent a message to Ziven, but he didn't know where Clifford was either. He was busy organizing files now that Clifford had been promoted to Chairman of the Board, which meant Ziven was now his executive assistant. He simply replied to Latisha: [I don't know.]

So Latisha scrolled through her contacts, looking for anyone who might know Clifford's whereabouts. Her finger hovered over Yesenia's name, but she knew it was pointless. Even if Yesenia knew, she would never tell her.

Giving up, she tried Flint.

Flint sent a voice message back almost immediately. "Latisha, Clifford was at Mystic Cube last night. No idea about today, though. Haven't seen him."

Latisha's eyes flickered. Had he gone to Mystic Cube to drink himself into a stupor? It made sense. He’d been kicked out of his own company, all because he’d chosen to search for her at the farm. And how had she repaid him? By siding with Santino. He had every right to be furious.

A wave of guilt washed over her, heavy and suffocating. She had brought this on him. It was her fault, all her fault. This time, she was truly in the wrong.

Latisha left the office and hailed a cab to Mystic Cube. It was her second time here, the first being for Nikita.

Unsure of where to find Clifford, she started her search in the main hall on the ground floor, a sprawling, vibrant bar. Even at this hour, the place was packed, with colored lights flashing and music blasting so loud it shook the floor.

She moved through the crowd, scanning every face for a sign of him, but the strobing lights made everyone a blur of light and shadow.

A drunk man grabbed her, pulling her onto the dance floor and spinning her around. She pushed him away and headed for the stairs. Knowing Clifford, he wouldn't be caught dead dancing in a place like this. He was more likely in a private room upstairs.

Latisha found the room from her last visit. She peered at the door, but it was tightly shut, revealing nothing.

"What are you doing?" a voice boomed from behind, startling her.

She turned to see a burly man. She instinctively started to sign.
