The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 283

Even the nameplate had been changed.

Latisha's heart skipped a beat. Had Clifford been kicked out at yesterday's shareholders' meeting? Was it because he'd been late, delayed by his search for her? Had Wallace used that as an opportunity to rally the others against him? If there was a new CEO, where was Clifford?

She didn't understand the inner workings of the company, but she knew this office had belonged to him.

She rushed back to her department to ask her colleagues.

"What? The CEO was replaced?" her colleague exclaimed in shock.

Another coworker overheard and joined in. "No way! I saw someone in the group chat say the CEO was new, but I thought it was a joke. It's for real?"

"I don't know, I haven't been to his office today."

"I saw someone go in earlier, I just assumed they were meeting with Mr. Lambert. Latisha, was he wearing a cream-colored suit and gold-rimmed glasses? Looked pretty distinguished?"

Latisha nodded vigorously.

"Then that must be him. Wow, how did we not hear a single thing about this?"

"I didn't hear anything either. You don't think the company got bought out, do you?"

"Get real. Who has the power to buy out our company?"

"True… Still, I need to find out what's going on. If the CEO's been replaced, I'm really starting to panic!"

"I'll go with you!"

The two colleagues hurried out, leaving Latisha alone in the office. Even Selah and Ziven were nowhere to be seen. Had they all been fired too?

Latisha’s mind raced with anxiety. She took out her phone, wanting to message Clifford, but then she remembered his coldness from the night before and let her hand fall. He probably wouldn't reply anyway.

...

Around noon, Selah finally appeared and called the three of them into a meeting.

"The company is going through some major changes, as I'm sure you've noticed," she began. "Our positions could change at any time, so it's crucial that you focus on your work and don't slack off. We have a new CEO, and there's no telling how he'll want to restructure things."
