The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 295

Yesenia’s grip on her purse tightened. It was a lie to say she didn’t want to leave, but the image of Clifford's merciless expression flashed through her mind, extinguishing the thought. Still, she couldn’t let it go. Love was a terrifying thing. With a bitter smile, Yesenia realized she was truly caught in his web for life.

...

After leaving the apartment complex, Clifford drove not to Aqua Harmony Haven, but to his villa nestled in the hills. Normally, the only person at the villa was the groundskeeper who cared for the animals, but tonight it was surrounded by guards.

The men at the gate recognized his car and respectfully opened the heavy iron gates, watching him drive through before closing them again.

Clifford parked in front of one of the main buildings, where Fabian immediately ran over to open his door.

“Mr. Lambert.”

“Where is he?”

“Inside,” Fabian said, leading the way.

But instead of going into the villa, he led Clifford around the back to the large, fenced-in enclosure where the estate’s animals were kept. At night, the animals were let out to roam freely within the enclosure.

And Santino was in there with them.

Fabian’s plan had been to frighten him. He’d thrown a cage in there, assuming that once the animals started circling, Santino would scramble inside for safety. It was a demeaning tactic.

But when they arrived at the enclosure, the scene was not what they expected. There was no sign of Santino cowering in a cage. Instead, several large hounds were lying in a corner, serving as a living cushion for him. On a cold night like this, the warmth from the dogs would be quite welcome. Santino had his hands laced behind his head, either resting or sleeping.

Seeing this, Fabian’s face fell. He shot a nervous glance at Clifford. “Mr. Lambert, this…”

How could these dogs be so useless?
