Caitlin made her way to Adler's office. The door was open, but she didn't walk right in. Instead, she stood at the entrance and knocked gently.
"Come in," a deep voice called from inside. Caitlin stepped into the room.
Adler, seemingly not expecting her so early, was in the middle of buttoning his shirt. He quickly turned his back to her, a hint of fluster in his movements.
"Instructor Adler," Caitlin said, not paying much mind to the scene.
"You're here for the leave slip, right?" Adler asked.
Had Caitlin looked up at that moment, she would have noticed his ears were bright red.
"Yes," she replied.
"It's in the third drawer of my desk," Adler said, his back still to her. He was fumbling with the buttons, his haste making it worse. "Just grab it yourself."
"Okay."
Caitlin quickly found the slip. Just as she was about to leave, Adler spoke again. "Caitlin, wait a moment."
"Is there something else, Mr. Adler?" she asked, turning back.
Having finally fastened the last button, Adler faced her. "Forgive me for asking, but is your family close with the Gonzales family?"
He was intensely curious now. Why would someone like Caitlin need to pull strings and take shortcuts?
"Which Gonzales family?" Caitlin asked.
"Aelfric Gonzales," Adler said, naming Charis's father.
Caitlin shook her head slightly. "I don't know him."
Adler's expression didn't change. "Alright. I was just asking."
Caitlin didn't think much of it. "If there's nothing else, Mr Adler, I'll be going."
"Go ahead."
The moment Caitlin's figure vanished from the doorway, Adler's face darkened. He pulled out his phone and made a call.
"Your precious daughter! She even dared to use me! Wanda, I'm telling you, if you don't start disciplining that girl of yours, she's going to bring some serious trouble down on your family!"
From the moment Caitlin said she didn't know Aelfric Gonzales, Adler understood everything.
He was lucky Caitlin was genuinely talented. If she had been even slightly less capable, this whole situation would have been a disaster to fix.
He used to think Charis was just a bit spoiled and willful, but he never imagined she could be so reckless.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
