Gavin stared at the file Ransom had slammed onto the table, completely stunned.

He remembered that back in The Capital, some people had commented that Ann didn't look much like him. But he had never paid it any mind. The thought of getting a paternity test had never once crossed his mind.

He had believed Amanda would never do such a thing. Besides, not all children resemble their parents. He had simply assumed Ann was one of those exceptions.

Gavin's brow furrowed as he looked at Ransom. "A paternity test? Ransom, do you have any respect for me as your brother-in-law?"

This wasn't something to be done lightly. It was a massive insult to Ann's dignity. No matter what mistakes she had made in the past, she was still his daughter. They were connected by blood.

"Gavin, I haven't seen the results myself, but I have a strong feeling she's not your daughter. Just look at it! If the test proves me wrong, I'll accept any consequence! I just don't want to see you being played for a fool, raising another man's child. And I can't stand by and watch this outsider destroy the happy family you three have built."

Gavin said nothing more, his hand reaching for the paternity report.

Seeing that Gavin was actually wavering and about to open the report, Ann's face turned pale with fury. "Ransom! You and your sister have had it out for me from the beginning, haven't you? You've always wanted to drive me out of this house! Fine! If you can't accept me, then I'll leave on my own!"

"No wonder everyone says that a stepmother brings a stepfather. Maybe I never should have hoped for a father's love in the first place! I won't disturb your happy little family anymore."

With that, Ann turned to storm out.

For her, the bigger the scene, the better. Rowena and Ransom were insane! How dare they question her parentage? They had even gone so far as to get a secret paternity test. They were digging their own graves. She had been looking for an opportunity to deal with Rowena, and now, they had handed it to her on a silver platter.

Today, she would use this chance to make Rowena and Ransom kneel and apologize to her. More importantly, she would completely destroy Rowena's standing in Gavin's eyes.
