THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 434

He missed the hole—again. Perfectly.

Caitlin burst out laughing. “Oh my God, Mr. Sylvester, you’re incredible. Honestly, just amazing.”

“That was a fluke. Total slip-up,” Gordon muttered, dropping five more tokens into the claw machine. “Catie, I’m getting serious now! Watch and learn.”

Clack!

A few seconds later, the pink piglet plush tumbled down, landing just a few inches short of the chute—again.

Gordon’s smile faltered. “Another slip. It’s the machine, not me!”

He kept playing.

The piglet kept falling just short.

By the time his basket of tokens was nearly empty and he still hadn’t caught a single prize, Gordon looked about ready to crawl into a hole.

How was this possible?!

To make matters worse, the couple at the next machine had already filled one shopping cart with stuffed animals and were starting on a second.

Caitlin looped her arm around his and tried to cheer him up. “Come on, let’s give up on the piglet. I don’t even want it anymore. Let’s head back.”

“One more try, Catie. Just one more, I swear. I’ll get it this time.”

He popped in another token.

Same result.

Still no prize.

He kept going until the basket was empty. Not a single plushie to show for it.

Caitlin: “......” Well, that was awkward.

When they finally left the arcade, it was already past seven in the evening—the perfect time for dinner.

They picked a cozy bistro for a meal. Afterward, Gordon drove Caitlin home.

About a quarter mile from Gonzales Manor, Caitlin glanced over. “You can drop me off here. If my grandma sees us, she’ll start asking questions.”

“What’s there to explain? I’ve driven you home before.” Gordon slowed reluctantly, not ready to say goodbye.

Caitlin unbuckled her seatbelt. “Sure, but before, it was just once in a while. If you do it all the time now, she’ll get suspicious.”

“Alright,” Gordon conceded with a sigh.

Once Caitlin got out, Gordon didn’t drive off right away. He watched her walk away, then pulled out his phone. “Hello, Secretary Wallace? Have a claw machine delivered to the Sylvester Mansion. Immediately.”
