Caitlin had never been the kind of girl anyone could push around.
If she simply swallowed her pride and let Raven walk all over her, Raven would only get bolder.
And it wouldn’t just be Raven.
Everyone present would start thinking Caitlin was an easy target.
Worse, the entire Gonzales family would soon be saddled with a reputation for being a pushover.
Caitlin’s retort cut straight to the bone—it was a blade aimed right at Raven’s most tender spot.
It drew blood.
Raven had spent years chasing after Gordon Sylvester and never once succeeded; it was a wound she did her best to hide.
No one had ever dared mock her for it—until now.
Who did Caitlin think she was?
Raven stared at Caitlin, shock and outrage draining the color from her face.
That divorced nobody from the countryside—how dare she?
She’d exposed Raven’s humiliation in front of everyone.
Not only that, she’d practically called her a lovesick lapdog.
As if! Raven was not some pathetic puppy trailing after Gordon. Their feelings were mutual—if Caitlin hadn’t suddenly appeared out of nowhere, Raven and Gordon would have been together ages ago.
What right did Caitlin have to mock her?
The only reason Caitlin had the nerve was that she was dating Gordon now. That had to be it.
But she was deluding herself.
Gordon was only using her—she was nothing but a convenient distraction to him.
If Gordon really cared, if he actually wanted to acknowledge Caitlin as his girlfriend, why keep it a secret?
What was there for Caitlin to be so proud of?
She was nothing but a passing amusement.
Just wait.
It wouldn’t be long before Gordon dumped her. Then Caitlin could see just how smug she felt.
Caitlin’s comeback left not just Raven fuming but the entire room momentarily stunned.
Everyone had expected Caitlin to just bite her tongue and endure Raven’s taunts.
She opened her mouth to retaliate, but Caitlin beat her to it. Mimicking Raven’s earlier prim manner, Caitlin lifted her hand to her lips and feigned surprise. “Oh, I was just joking, Miss Cartwright. Surely you’re not actually upset?”
In this moment, if Raven tried to keep up her icy act, it would only make her look bad.
Forcing herself to calm down, Raven managed a strained smile, swallowing her anger. “Of course not.”
Raven had always had things her way in the Capital—no one had ever made her suffer such humiliation.
Caitlin was the first.
That insufferable farm girl!
Just wait.
She’d make sure Caitlin regretted this before the day was over.
Caitlin smiled sweetly. “I knew Miss Cartwright wouldn’t be so petty.”
With that little drama over, it was time for the day’s main event:
A hike.
They’d traveled a hundred kilometers outside the city to a famous mountain, known for its breathtaking views.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
