Jennifer ran to Mrs. Lewis, her voice thick with fake tears. "Mrs. Lewis, where is Miss Palmer? What happened to her? I told her, I warned her that a quack from Eldermere couldn't cure her, but she just wouldn't listen!"
"Jennifer," Celia said, stepping out of the car right behind her aunt. "Miss Gonzales is no quack. I've been completely cured."
What?
Cured?
Jennifer froze, certain she was hearing things. How could that be?
She stammered, "M-Miss Palmer, is that true? You can't joke about something like this!"
"I'm not joking. I really am cured. Here's the hospital report." Celia held out the document.
Jennifer took it with a trembling hand. It was only after reading the report that she could believe her ears. Celia was actually cured.
Before Jennifer could fully process it, Celia continued, "Jennifer, I'm so glad I didn't listen to you and kept taking the medicine Miss Gonzales prescribed. Otherwise, I'd be stuck wearing adult diapers to bed again tonight."
Jennifer didn't know what to feel. She had expected Celia to be full of regret for not heeding her advice. But now, Celia was perfectly healthy.
Forcing a smile, Jennifer looked up at Celia. "That's wonderful news, Miss Palmer! I'm so happy to see you well in my lifetime! It turns out Miss Gonzales really is a miracle worker. I was so wrong to judge her."
In truth, a part of her genuinely was happy that Celia was finally well.
Back in her room, Celia locked Caitlin's prescription in her safe and then called her mother to share the good news.
Mrs. Palmer was astonished to hear her daughter had been cured by someone from Eldermere. "Celia, are you certain you're fully recovered?"
"Yes, Mother, I'm sure," Celia confirmed, holding the hospital report up to the camera. "Look, this is the report from the hospital."
Seeing the results, Mrs. Palmer was overjoyed for her daughter. "Celia, our family does not forget its debts. I'm in Valerium and can't travel to Eldermere right now to apologize to Miss Gonzales in person. You must thank her properly on my behalf."
Mrs. Palmer had two sons and a daughter. Her eldest son had died from a disease brought on by a curse, and her second son was still bedridden. While her daughter's condition wasn't life-threatening, it was dangerous; a doctor had once told her that every seizure shortened Celia's life by three months. For years, Mrs. Palmer had dreamed of her daughter getting well. Caitlin hadn't just saved Celia; she had given the entire Palmer family a new ray of hope.
Celia smiled. "Don't worry, Mother, I will definitely thank Miss Gonzales properly. I plan to leave for the Capital tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Mrs. Palmer asked.
"Yes."
"Celia, wait a few days. I have something I want to give Miss Gonzales as a thank-you gift. Byron is flying to Neon Spire tomorrow; I'll have him bring it to you. You can go to the Capital after you receive it."
International shipping was too slow. A personal delivery was the quickest way.
