After Jennifer left, the hotel manager, Leon, was summoned to Celia's room.
When he emerged a short while later, Jennifer approached him casually. "Manager Leon, did Miss Palmer call you in about the prescription?"
"She did," Leon confirmed, scratching his head in confusion. "She asked me to investigate Miss Gonzales. Do you think she suspects Miss Gonzales took it?"
Jennifer feigned a concerned frown. "Miss Gonzales is Miss Palmer's best friend in Eldermere. You shouldn't be saying things like that."
Leon realized the gravity of his words and lowered his voice. "Jennifer, I've only said this to you. Please don't mention it to anyone else."
Jennifer nodded. "I understand."
The next day, Caitlin and Celia had planned to go hiking in the mountains.
At nine in the morning, Caitlin arrived at the hotel to pick Celia up.
Celia, who clearly hadn't slept well, had dark circles under her eyes. She looked at Jennifer, her voice cold. "Go tell Freya that I don't have time to go hiking with her today."
Jennifer hid a smirk. It seemed her plan was working.
Otherwise, Celia would never have turned Caitlin away.
She must have been up all night, agonizing over Caitlin's betrayal.
And she was no longer calling her ‘Freya.'
Perfect.
Absolutely perfect.
Though ecstatic, Jennifer maintained a neutral expression. "Of course, Miss Palmer. I'll go right away."
"Wait," Celia called out just as Jennifer reached the door.
Jennifer stopped. "Is there anything else, Miss Palmer?"
Celia's voice was like ice. "Tell her not to come looking for me again. Our friendship is over."
Jennifer could barely contain her excitement.
She had thought Celia was merely suspicious of Caitlin.
But now, it was clear that Celia had lost all faith in her.
Jennifer went downstairs and looked down at Caitlin with an air of superiority. "Miss Gonzales, I'm afraid Miss Palmer is unavailable to see you today. You should leave."
"Unavailable?" Caitlin was surprised. "What do you mean? We had plans. Jennifer, could you please go up and ask her for me?"
"Watch your tone, Miss Gonzales. Our Miss Palmer's name is not for someone like you to use so freely. To be frank, Miss Palmer is not only unavailable today, but she also said that your friendship is over. From now on, you are strangers." Jennifer then turned to the hotel manager. "Leon, please see our guest out."
Caitlin frowned, quickly typing a message on her phone to Celia before following Leon out of the hotel.
The last part was both a warning and a threat.
If she was willing to steal from Celia, what wouldn't she do?
Griffin nodded quickly. "Don't worry, Miss Jennifer. You took a great risk to get us the prescription; we would never betray you. Director Smith asked me to tell you that our team should have the new drug developed in a week, two at the most."
"And then, our names will be etched into medical history forever."
A look of smug satisfaction crossed Jennifer's face, as if she could already see the successful launch of the new drug.
"Miss Jennifer," Griffin added, "from now on, we should probably meet less often, just in case Miss Palmer becomes suspicious. And from what I hear, Freya isn't someone to be trifled with. You need to be extra careful."
"Suspicious of me? That fool Celia?" Jennifer sneered. "Don't worry about it. She's already turned on that witch Freya. She has no time to worry about me."
With just a few words, she had shattered their friendship.
What was Celia if not a fool?
It was because Jennifer knew Celia so well that she dared to meet Griffin at a time like this.
*CRASH!*
Suddenly, the door to the private room was kicked open.
Celia, who was supposed to be resting at the hotel, stood in the doorway, pointing a shaking finger at Jennifer. "JENNIFER!!! I can't believe it was really you who betrayed me!"

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
