The implication was unmistakable. Keira stared at Tammie in disbelief. Was he, her own nephew, accusing her of being a busybody? She was only trying to protect him from further hardship.
"Tammie, you've misunderstood. I—" she began, but Caitlin stepped forward and gently touched her arm.
"Grandma, you've said enough. If he won't listen, then it's best to let him make his own mistakes. You can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved."
At this point, anything more Keira said would be useless. Tammie wouldn't believe her; he would only resent her for interfering.
Keira had given her warning, and that was all she could do. Whatever happened to him now was on his own head. As her granddaughter, Caitlin couldn't bear to watch Keira waste her kindness on someone so stubbornly ungrateful. It wasn't worth it.
Tammie's gaze shifted to Caitlin, his eyes filled with a complicated mix of anger and resentment. "Caitlin, I know you're behind Ann's downfall. Save the righteous act. I see you for who you are."
If he didn't speak up, Ann would suffer this injustice forever. Ann might be forgiving enough to let it go, but he wasn't. He was her family, and he had to fight for her.
How could Caitlin stand there, celebrated as the new lady of the Gonzales family, while Ann was cast out? It was deeply unfair. He only wished Keira wasn't so blinded by bloodlines.
Caitlin remained perfectly composed, her expression unruffled by his accusation. It was Keira who flew into a rage, stepping in front of Caitlin protectively. "Tammie! How dare you? Caitlin was trying to help you, and you throw it back in her face! You are biting the hand that tries to feed you!"
They had tried to reason with Tammie, but he was completely unreachable. He was just like his father—a chip off the old block.
"Grandma, don't be angry," Caitlin said softly. "It's not worth getting worked up over an outsider. Everyone has to walk their own path." Since Tammie clearly considered them outsiders, she saw no reason to be polite. She turned her cool gaze to him. "Good luck, Tammie. I hope Ann doesn't disappoint you."

Meanwhile, Tammie returned to the hotel to find Ann waiting for him in the lobby. She jumped up from the sofa the moment he walked in. "Tammie, you're back."
Seeing the hope in her eyes, a wave of guilt washed over him. He had gone to the Gonzales estate to plead her case, but Keira had not only refused, she had tried to turn him against Ann.
Noticing his grim expression, Ann forced a smile. "It's okay, Tammie. I already knew what she would say. Grandma never liked me. All she cares about is Freya. I'm not her real family, so of course she wouldn't want me."
Her eyes reddened, and her voice trembled as if she were holding back a world of hurt. "How could I ever compare to Freya? In Grandma's eyes, I'm just some stray she took in."

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
