By the time Keira finally realized her mistake, it would be too late to undo the damage.

Meanwhile, Celia took a car directly to the Gonzales estate. When she arrived, she found Caitlin in the garden, scolding her dog. The climbing roses were in full bloom, their fragrance filling the air.
Caitlin stood with her hands on her hips, her voice stern. "Monday! What have I told you? No eating poop! Why won't you listen?"
"Woof! Woof!" Monday whined, his head hung low in a display of pathetic contrition. *I didn't eat it!* his expression seemed to say. *I was just holding it in my mouth. I didn't even swallow.* Finding a good, sun-dried piece of poop was a rare treasure these days, and he'd only been saving it for later. He couldn't believe his mom had caught him.
As if to prove his point, Monday nudged the dried lump with his paw.
Caitlin stifled a laugh and lightly tapped his broad back with a small stick. "And you're proud of that?"
Snow, the cat, sat primly beside Caitlin, fastidiously licking a paw while casting a look of utter disgust at the dog. *Ugh, what a disgusting creature.* The thought that Monday often tried to lick her made Snow's fur stand on end.
Suddenly, she remembered he'd licked this very paw earlier, and she gagged dramatically. If that filthy mutt ever touched her again, she'd claw his eyes out.
Celia, enchanted by the scene, quietly took out her phone and snapped several photos. The composition was perfect: the repentant dog, the disgusted cat, and the exasperated mother.
