The more Lenora spoke, the more frightened she became. She had just watched a horror movie the previous night where a scene exactly like this had played out. The main character's dog started barking at thin air, and a second later, a long-haired ghost in a red dress appeared on screen. This felt unnervingly similar.
Keira looked at her and chuckled. "You're a young girl. How can you be more superstitious than an old woman like me?" She gently patted Monday's head, trying to quiet him.
But Monday only got more excited. Before either of them could react, he darted away, bolting towards a figure standing by the path. He launched himself at the person, planting his front paws on their legs, whining with joy.
The man was tall and imposing, with sharp features and a powerful presence. He was dressed in an expensive, custom-tailored suit, and the watch on his wrist glinted under the lamplight. He looked as if he had just come from a tense meeting, a lingering air of severity about him.
But the moment he saw Monday, that harsh aura vanished. His lips curved into a slight smile, as if spring had suddenly thawed a frozen landscape.
He bent down and ruffled Monday's head. "Hey, Monday. What are you doing out here all by yourself?"
"Woof! Woof! Woof!"
When Lenora turned to see who it was, her eyes widened. "Oh my god! He's so handsome!"
Keira hurried over. "Excuse me, sir. I'm so sorry, my dog must have startled you."
*Sir?*
The word seemed to catch Gordon Sylvester off guard. "It's no trouble, Keira. Monday and I are old friends."
It was only then that Keira got a clear look at his face. "You're… you're Gordon Sylvester, aren't you? Head of the Sylvester family?"
