THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 692

He looked at his mother. "Mom, could you please ask Miss Gonzales to come back? She may be young, but she seemed very composed and professional." Caitlin didn't strike him as the type to lie. He felt he would be in safe hands with her.

Jasmine rolled her eyes. "Hoffman, you're not thinking clearly. You were in the room. You heard how ridiculous that girl sounded."

"She's right, Dad," Justus added. "Freya is completely unreliable. She actually claimed that Professor Smith stole her formula! You can't possibly believe a word she says."

Caught between his wife and son's certainty and his own nagging doubts, Hoffman turned to his mother. "Mom, what do you think?"

Suzanne's eyes narrowed. "I agree with Jasmine and Justus. That Gonzales girl does seem a bit… flighty."

Jasmine scoffed. "What do you expect? She was raised in the countryside. It would be more surprising if she did carry herself like a proper lady from a distinguished family." The idea that a country girl could be on par with a true heiress was absurd. It was no wonder Caitlin spouted such nonsense.

"Dad, just take the pill," Justus urged. "Mom and I went through a lot of trouble to get this for you."

After a long moment of hesitation, Hoffman finally opened his mouth and swallowed the pill Jasmine held out for him. She quickly handed him a glass of water.

"How long do I need to take this before I'm cured?" he asked after he'd washed it down.

"Just five consecutive days," Justus replied.

Hoffman nodded. "I just hope it works. I hope it's not like Miss Gonzales said." After being sick for so long, all he wanted was to live a normal life.

Justus smiled confidently. "Don't worry. I guarantee that after five days, you'll be back to perfect health."

A hopeful smile spread across Hoffman's face. Suzanne smiled too. After more than a year of watching her son's health decline, she finally saw a glimmer of light.

The next day, Hoffman's condition had improved dramatically. Normally confined to his bed, he woke up and was able to walk to the dining room on his own. The entire Sterling family was overcome with emotion.

Suzanne wiped away tears of joy, her hands pressed together in prayer. "Thank God, thank God! My Hoffman is finally getting better."

Jasmine smiled. "Mom, it's a good thing we didn't listen to Freya's nonsense yesterday!"

"You're right," Suzanne agreed. She remembered Keira's parting words and felt a smug desire to call her immediately and tell her the good news. She wanted Keira to know that her granddaughter was nothing but a fearmonger. Hoffman hadn't gotten worse; he was getting better.

"That granddaughter of Keira's needs to be disciplined," Suzanne said sternly. "Otherwise, she's going to cause even bigger trouble down the line." And Keira, instead of correcting her, was blindly enabling her. Just wait. Keira would live to regret it.
