In the hospital room, Ivy gripped Leo's hand. "Well, Leo," she purred, "look at you now."
Though his body was paralyzed, his mind was still sharp. He glared at her, his eyes blazing with a fire he couldn't express.
"What are you looking at?" Ivy's eyes narrowed. "The doctor said you're going to be a useless vegetable for the rest of your life. This is your karma, Leo. Don't think for a second I didn't know what you were doing behind my back all these years." She ticked off names on her fingers. "Annie, Cindy, and that little college student from a few months ago. Let's see which one of them is willing to take care of you now."
With his money and his position as a shareholder in Gonzales Holdings, Leo had lived a wild life. If not for the fear of public scandal, he would have divorced Ivy years ago.
He had made a terrible mistake. He saw that now. In his mind's eye, he remembered a younger Ivy, a good woman whom he had once truly loved. It was he who had ruined everything. If he had just been more discreet, if she had never found out, perhaps he wouldn't be in this state. But it was too late for regrets. The more he thought about it, the louder his sobs became.
"Crying, crying, crying!" Ivy stormed into the room and slapped him across the face. "That's all you know how to do! You pathetic creature, you've cried all our good luck away! I should have never married you."
